Drafter CAD Operator
This job is non-exempt from overtime in accordance with FLSA.
Reports to: Lead Drafter
Location: On site, Williamsburg, Virginia at the Cheatham Annex Naval Facility
Schedule: Fixed 7:30am to 3:30pm, 40 hours/week
Job Summary
The Drafter CAD Operator II is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings and plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software. They will work closely with engineers, architects, and other professionals to convert design concepts into accurate and precise drawings.
Major Essential Job Functions
- Use sketches, computer models or direction provided by engineers or designers to prepare manufacturing drawings in AutoCAD or Solid Edge. Typical drawings including various views, sectional profiles, hidden lines, weld symbols, material call outs and parts list.
- Create and modify detailed drawings, plans, and layouts using CAD software.
- Interpret and analyze design specifications, sketches, and rough drawings to produce accurate and complete technical drawings.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other professionals to understand project requirements and ensure drawings meet design standards.
- Review and revise drawings based on feedback and changes from project stakeholders.
- Ensure drawings are in compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintain and update drawing files, databases, and documentation.
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals, cost estimates, and material specifications.
- Coordinate with other departments and external vendors to obtain necessary information and resolve design issues.
- Stay updated with the latest CAD software and techniques to improve productivity and efficiency.
- Working knowledge of procedures and accepted practices in accordance ASME Y14.100/ASME Y14.5.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school graduate
- Citizenship: Eligible candidates must be able to access the work site on a federal installation and is therefore limited to U.S. citizens.
- Security Clearance: Final candidates must be able to successfully complete a background check and be eligible to obtain a Secret Clearance.
- AUTOCAD: Training and proficiency in Drafter CAD software for engineering applications
Skills & Experience:
- Strong knowledge of drafting principles, techniques, and standards.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to interpret and analyze technical drawings, specifications, and design concepts.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Mechanical drafting experience
