CAD Designer - Airport Design

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, PLLC (ICE) is seeking a talented CAD (Airport) Designer to our team based in Baton Rouge. This role is pivotal in our aviation projects division, where your primary focus will revolve around the meticulous design of critical elements such as runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons, airfield drainage systems, and access roads for airports spanning Louisiana and the broader Southeast region. We are in search of an individual who not only possesses adeptness in designing and drafting plans using AutoCAD software but also harbors a specialized expertise in infrastructure design tailored to airport environments. Position Summary: The CAD Designer will develop construction plans and specifications for airport infrastructure projects. The CAD Designer will contribute and provide support in completing engineering tasks related to design procedures, evaluation of criteria, scope development, and the creation of accurate estimates. In addition to the existing responsibilities outlined in the job description, this role will involve creating detailed CAD designs for airport runways, taxiways, hangars, retaining ponds, fencing, and other related elements. The candidate will be involved in intricate engineering and geometric calculations specific to Airport Design, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and departmental procedures.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to assist in the creation and modification of engineering drawings, plans, and schematics for airport infrastructure and planning projects.
  • Performs civil design with a specialized focus on airport infrastructure projects using AutoCAD/Civil3D, under the guidance of a Senior Engineer.
  • Collaborates with other engineering disciplines to coordinate the design of airport projects under the guidance of a senior engineer/designer.
  • Conducts field work related to airport projects, including site inspections, evaluations, and data collection.
  • Assists with engineering/drafting duties on projects of various complexity.
  • Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.
  • Assists in basic interpretation and verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
  • Constructs models for project plans and specifications and meets related needs by performing routing aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Assists in the preparation and presentation of Airport Design details and concepts for public meetings, workshops with local agencies, and internal staff gatherings.
Position Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of civil engineering experience with a focus on drafting, including experience in airport projects.
  • 1-3 years of AutoCAD/Civil3D experience, with a strong preference for candidates with Airport Design experience.
  • Familiarity with Florida state and county infrastructure improvement projects, with a specific emphasis on airport infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience using AutoCAD and Civil3D.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided drafting and design tools and automated office products.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Airport Design concepts, terminology, and principles.
  • Familiarity with Airport Design standards, specifications, and criteria established or adopted by relevant authorities, such as FAA and FDOT.
  • Understanding of project engineering and scheduling
  • Experience in GIS, ICPR 4, EPA SWMM, MicroStation Inroads/Geopak, and OpenRoads would be advantageous in the context of airport projects.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for conveying technical information.
  • Problem-solving abilities in the field of engineering.
  • A valid Driver's License is required with a safe driving record and must complete a pre-employment screening.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Demands: While working in the office, this position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Must have visual acuity to recognize/change/add precise details on CAD drawings.

Expected Hours of Work: This position is full-time (40 hours per week). Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing one unpaid hour for lunch each day. While overtime is generally not anticipated, occasional projects or deadlines may necessitate additional hours, compensated according to company policy. Flexible schedules may be available with prior approval from the immediate supervisor. Work schedules may vary based on project demands.
