IT Buyer
Company: HRU is collaborating with a highly successful Academic organization located in East Lansing, MI in their search for an IT Buyer.
Role Overview: As an IT Buyer, you will play a pivotal role within the procurement team, responsible for acquiring technology-related goods and services for the University. This role demands a profound understanding of the IT market, coupled with robust negotiation and administrative skills to ensure the university's procurement processes are both cost-effective and efficient.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluating Purchasing Requests:
- Critically assess and validate purchasing requests for IT goods and services.
- Ensure compliance with university policies and align with the specific needs of the IT department.
- Analyze technical requirements to ensure alignment with the university's IT strategy.
- Market Analysis and Vendor Selection:
- Conduct thorough market research to identify potential suppliers.
- Evaluate vendors based on capability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Maintain and update a preferred vendor list for IT purchases.
- Soliciting Quotes and Proposals:
- Request and collect quotes and proposals from potential suppliers.
- Organize and lead RFP (Request for Proposal) processes when necessary.
- Ensure a competitive bidding environment to achieve the best value for the university.
- Negotiating Pricing and Terms:
- Skillfully negotiate with suppliers to obtain optimal pricing and favorable terms.
- Focus on long-term value, including quality, efficiency, and after-sales support.
- Draft and review contract terms to protect the university's interests.
- Issuing and Administering Purchase Orders:
- Prepare and issue Purchase Orders (POs) following university procedures.
- Monitor and manage POs from issuance to closure, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with specified terms.
- Supplier Relationship Management:
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with key suppliers.
- Handle supplier queries and issues effectively.
- Evaluate supplier performance and provide feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
- Collaboration and Compliance:
- Work closely with the IT department and other stakeholders to understand procurement needs.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with university policies and legal requirements.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Actively seek opportunities to enhance procurement processes and systems.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in IT procurement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience in procurement, particularly in an IT context.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Knowledge of procurement software and systems.
- Understanding of IT products and services.
Working Conditions: This position may require occasional travel to meet with suppliers or attend industry events. The role also involves regular use of computers and may require extended periods of screen time.
Contract Duration: 4-6 months Schedule: Remote/Hybrid | Full-time - 1st shift (Monday – Friday) Compensation: Competitive and open for discussion
