The Role:

As a Leader in Production, you will be responsible for implementing and executing the established business process for the Paint Shop.  You will support Shift Leaders in managing the complexity in production operations while fostering an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation.  This job requires effective communication with production, maintenance, and the shop committee.  The work involves a considerable amount of initiative in decision making and is accompanied by a high level of independent judgment.

What You'll Do:

  • Manages department manpower including onboarding, movement within teams and departments, training, and administrative items
  • Supports department floor operations including overtime, weekend work, and multiple shifts as required.
  • Absentee replacement as needed for Group Leader, Business Manager, Shift Leader
  • Supports Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes across the shop and plant, including BPD activities at all levels
  • Supports launch and pilot activities for new parts/products, new colors
  • Establishes and maintains needed indirect materials and production aids, including cleaning as required
  • Tracks open Kronos items, budgetary accounts, performance to training requirements at all levels and scrap reconciliation
  • Manages paint coverall program
  • Understands and consistently administers the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union
  • Supports safety culture through audits, observation and incident investigation.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience within paint operations in a manufacturing environment
  • Production group leader experience preferred
  • Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures, manufacturing processes, and management systems as they relate to production operations.
