Are you looking for an exciting job where you can put your skills and talents to work at a company you can feel proud to be a part of? Do you want a workplace that will challenge you and offer you opportunities to learn and grow? A position at Xcel Energy could be just what you're looking for.
Summary
Are you curious how your college courses translate to the real world? Are you ready to work alongside experienced professionals on real world projects? An internship at Xcel Energy will give you practical experience in the energy industry at a company that's committed to excellence, environmental stewardship, and leading the clean energy transition.
The Demand Management ("DM") team is interviewing for an intern to support our portfolio initiatives across electricity, natural gas, demand response, and electric vehicles. The work will expand your professional skillset as you learn more about the energy industry and work with customers to maintain grid reliability. The DM team manages a variety of customer programs designed to provide flexible capacity that can be dispatched when the grid is stressed. In total, our DM portfolio controls nearly 1,500 MW of capacity by enrolling customers of all shapes and sizes - from small residential customers to the largest commercial & industrial customers on our system.
The nature of DM programs allows our team to work with a variety of organizations within Xcel Energy, including Commercial Operations, Account Management, Product Development, Marketing, Clean Transportation, and Load Forecasting. Our interns will be active product team members for a number of programs and will participate in a variety of program management activities such as customer enrollments, prospect marketing, vendor management, budget management, demand response dispatching, and event performance analysis. Interns will also have the opportunity to contribute to various team initiatives such as establishing an RFP for a distributed energy resource management system ("DERMS"), building program dashboards, drafting excel spreadsheets, writing detailed memoranda, developing marketing collateral, and refining the portfolio's roadmap strategy.
Example projects
Marketing/Program Growth Focus: Work with DM product teams to support portfolio growth in Colorado based on Strategic Issues decision. This will include evaluating current program participation and identifying prospect market segments and customers to target with marketing campaigns, as well contributing to the strategy and development for those marketing efforts. Work will also include evaluating overall program performance and identifying design improvement opportunities that could allow additional program growth.
Program Operations & Efficiency Focus: Work with Program Managers ("PM") to build summary dashboards that would provide insights into each program such as participation counts, dispatchable capacity, financial tracking, and progress towards annual goals. Interns would also assist PMs with program participant communications in order to provide feedback on communication content and strategy. Depending on skill level, work could also include customer and program performance analysis that could be incorporated inside customer communications or future product strategies. Interns would also have a chance to work with our vendor partners like Google Nest, Tesla, BMW, Ford, and EVSE manufacturers as you learn the programs and contribute to operational tasks like customer enrollments and event dispatching.
