ResponsibilitiesThe Business Manager is responsible for the fiscal and administrative functions for the Department of Computer Science. Including budget management, sponsored research, procurement, and human resources. Works with department chair to coordinate long-range administrative, personnel and fiscal goals and sets policy.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Serving as the budget manager for operating budgets and ensuring appropriate expenditures of all funds allocated to the department administration.
- Preparing and communicating financial reports to the department chair on a monthly, annual, and ad-hoc basis.
- Supervising and training administrative, fiscal, and grants staff in the department.
- Working with the Chair and College to develop long-range goals of the department for finance accountability, operation, and service improvements.
- Recommending policies, long-range planning, implementation of strategic initiatives, and policies and procedures ensuring consistency for the operation of the department.
- Overseeing all business operations of the department including the recruitment and hiring of faculty, HR transactions, time and leave, and training. Coordinating and monitoring all related functions for Computer Science.
- Ensuring compliance with University policies and procedures while communicating and interpreting to appropriate faculty and staff, and developing procedures to ensure adherence to the policies.
- Reviewing organizational structure of the department and making recommendations for the maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)
Preferred QualificationsThe Department seeks a candidate with excellent management and communication skills who is comfortable leading an administrative team. Someone who is a known problem solver and who can work well under pressure would be a great fit in this role. Being able to see the big picture while ensuring the small details are managed is an essential attribute of this position.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience include:
- Experience managing financial and administrative functions in support of business operations.
- Experience with budgetary functions to include compiling financial data, forecasting, financial statements, and making recommendations.
- Experience reconciling internal accounting records.
- Experience managing multiple direct reports across administrative functions.
- Experience implementing directives from leadership.
- Experience giving direction to a team and ensuring follow-through of those directives.
- Experience taking initiative to solve problems or challenges.
- Experience evaluating process effectiveness and developing change or alternatives in work assignments.
- Experience with FSU’s OMNI system, including Financials, Business Intelligence, and Human Resources modules.
- Experience with human resources, travel, and purchasing transaction processing.

Anticipated starting salary will be in the low $60,000’s, commensurate with education and experience.
