ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This Business Development - Lead Estimator role is responsible for preconstruction and the preparation of complete electrical estimates for industrial and commercial projects including automotive, mission critical, housing developments, design build, and healthcare. Complete estimates include all quotations and subcontractors required for the project. A high degree of accuracy, communication, and attention to detail is required.
Business Development - Lead Estimator
- Lead small teams of estimators tasked with preparing estimates for large projects.
- Familiar with design documents & specifications for review of all estimates
- Perform the pre-bid bid reviews with the Estimating Team and branch manager.
- Scheduling of estimating resources and planning required to ensure timely and accurate completion of estimates.
- Collaborate with the branch manager and estimating team to develop a bid strategy specific to each opportunity.
- Complete Budget proposals and tracking for future Bid opportunities.
- Schedule, attend and lead final bid reviews with the Estimating Team
- Create scope of work documents which accurately describe the inclusions, assumptions and clarifications used in preparing budgets and bid estimates.
- Write scope letter and prepare supporting documents to submit with proposal.
- Verify and maintain detailed records of estimate revisions and other supporting documents as needed, to serve as back-up for open book projects.
- Participate in interview prep meetings, customer interviews, and respond to customer questions.
- Develop, mentor, and train interns and new team members.
Estimating
- Follow estimating standards and guidelines
- Accurately interpret the design drawings and specifications.
- Review bid documents and attend pre-bid meetings and job walks to determine scope of work
- Review and determine accuracy of all subcontracts and vendor quotations received.
- Accurately estimate labor, materials, and administrative costs for projects, including filling out all closeout tabs.
- Complete bid forms and prepare necessary supporting documentation.
- Schedule and participate in estimating kickoff meetings, verifying completion of checklist.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) year degree in related field or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience in electrical conceptual estimating, low voltage estimating, National Electrical Code requirements, and design/build estimating preferred.
- Strong computerized estimating skills using electrical estimating software; experience with Accubid or Anywhere is a plus.
- Strong knowledge in the use of Bluebeam software for estimating and construction-related purposes.
- Strong mathematical skills, coupled with strong Microsoft Office skills (with an emphasis on Excel) are mandatory requirements for this position.
- Competent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Additionally, presentation skills are highly desirable.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload in a manner that ensures timely and accurate completion of all assigned tasks.
- Ability to work in both an autonomous environment, as well as part of a larger team.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- Effective time management skills and ability to manage workload, and meet deadlines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, filing cabinets, photocopiers, and fax machines.
- Employees are frequently required to sit, and occasionally required to kneel, reach, stoop, crouch, or crawl.
- This position requires the ability to lift files, open file cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
- This position may occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
