Sunday, an exciting new renewable energy developer is looking for a Business Development Associate who will be reporting directly to the CEO and Founder. In this role, you will be on the inside of a true start up that offers learning, advancement and full exposure to solar PV development process from market selection, siting, developing, connecting and selling solar farms to investors. This role is best suited for an individual who wants to make a lasting tangible impact and who thrives in a strategic and proactive environment.
The Business Development Associate will help the CEO develop and implement the Land Acquisition strategy for new ground mounted solar PV farms in the US. You will work closely with landowners, local governments, and community organizations to gain support for proposed renewable energy projects. Assist the CEO as projects get screened by lawyers, permitting specialists, engineers, and scientists to determine whether sites are suitable for solar farm development.
This role will have a large focus on early-stage solar development which requires Land Acquisition. You will work with and negotiate land options and leases with landowners to provide a suitable site to host a solar PV farm. This may include travel to the project area to understand the Local Planning Authority (LPA), Council and landowner views. Attendance at local planning meetings and ability to coordinate meetings with participating landowners it pivotal.
Once land for the solar development is acquired, the Business Development Associate will be involved in permitting process and help ensure as many projects as possible reach Ready to Build (RtB) status. Overtime, the successful candidate will nurture the built relationships throughout the project development process to ensure all parties remain engaged and informed.
Finally, you will have excellent exposure to all business operations and day-to-day workings. There will be a focus on growth and expansion thus, ample opportunities to wear multiple hats and explore your passions.
The right candidate does not necessarily need PV development experience, but a background in Land Acquisition or negotiating land rights is an advantage. In addition to this knowledge, the successful applicant will have stellar:
- Communication skills. Required to communicate the status of land transactions clearly and frequently in order to identify and address any issues that may impede the execution of a land lease or contract.
- Decision-making skills. You will weigh each land option and combine grid analysis, creativity, and realism to choose the appropriate action or plan.
- Interpersonal skills.Interact with the landowners, community members, and local governments regularly; therefore, you will be open, friendly, and able to build relationships and trust within the community.
- Negotiating skills.You will negotiate the terms of a contract with a landowner. Interpersonal skills and self-confidence, in addition to knowledge of the product, can help lead to successful success here.
- Organization skills. You will be highlyorganized and maintain accurate records of land transactions. Memorandum of agreements, deed requests, and lease documents including tax forms, payment instructions, and trust documents etc.
- Speaking skills.You may need to give presentations and meet with a wide variety of audiences, including public officials, interest groups, and community members. You will communicate Sunday’s position clearly and effectively, as well as be able to explain the basics of solar energy, lease term options and other information in a way that different groups of people will understand.
- Lead generation skills.You will prepare and organize leads into the CRM. Sending of mail campaigns and owning the process.
Education Level: Bachelor degree or equivalent (required), graduate degree (not required)
- Focus of study in business, real estate, law, engineering, or environmental science/energy field.
- Notary license is advantageous.
- Passion to fight climate change (required)
Estimated Salary Level: $40k-50k base annually. Potential for commissions, bonus structures, and advancement.
