The Milken Institute is a globally minded, publicly supported, non-partisan, and nonprofit think tank headquartered in Santa Monica, with offices in Washington, DC, New York, London, Abu Dhabi, and Singapore. For the past three decades, the Milken Institute has served as a catalyst for practical, scalable solutions to global challenges by connecting human, financial, and educational resources to those who need them. The right candidate will add value to an extraordinary portfolio of existing relationships with global financial institutions, corporate, investment, public policy, and foundation leaders and members of the philanthropic community by developing a strong knowledge of their businesses in order to proactively find and pursue opportunities for growing the relationships. This role coordinates with the Business & Program Development team in Santa Monica on planning, support, and execution of Milken Institute-wide development strategy to meet goals across events, including the annual Global Conference, and other regional summits.
- Initiate and steward relationships with existing Institute supporters and prospective donors
- Engage the community by organizing private members-only convenings, including networking receptions and Programmed events during annual flagship events and throughout the calendar year
- Foster current partnerships and cultivate new opportunities to reach prospective members
- Support existing sponsors throughout the year by building relationships with key contacts and being responsive to their requests, particularly in preparation for and during major conferences, with regular communication around logistics of their conference engagement and proactively managing these relationships.
- Develop and effectively articulate the value proposition for event and Program participation, including:
- Identifying corporate prospects
- Skillfully and professionally representing the Institute at external events and meetings including industry conferences, dinners, and roundtable discussions
- Crafting written and oral proposals
- Updating our internal relationship management tracker, Salesforce.
- Support business development opportunities across Milken Institute centers and events
- A proactive, highly organized, and enthusiastic development professional with a minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of relevant experience in relationship-building, development and/or recruiting
- An attitude of "no job is too small" and an attention to detail that ensures rewarding experiences and outcomes for supporters and other stakeholders
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Flexibility and motivation to take on new opportunities, expand portfolio and adapt to internal and external environment
- Intellectually curious with a solid understanding of, or eagerness to learn, the financial services industry
- Ability to effectively prioritize and respond promptly to internal and external communications
- Positive, team-oriented individual who seeks out tasks when work is completed and assists colleagues to ensure goals, requirements and deadlines are achieved
- Willingness to provide on-site support at select events on nights or weekends, as appropriate, on occasion
- Entrepreneurial spirit and mentality essential given its satellite location
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Technically savvy and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Salesforce
This position will work in a professional office environment. This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. International along with domestic travel is possible. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.

This position will work a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in-person to your respective office location (Tuesday – Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remotely. Please understand, this schedule is subject to change in the Institute’s sole discretion.
