Energy Alabama is seeking an assertive and energetic clean energy champion to join the team as Business and Industry Relations Manager. As Business and Industry Relations Manager, you will be instrumental in laying the groundwork for successful growth of sustainable energy in Alabama. You’ll make the essential connections between business, industry, and smart public policy.
Energy Alabama was founded in 2014 and is poised for significant growth over the next three to five years. This position will help shepherd Energy Alabama’s work to build relationships with Business and Industry on clean energy.
The Position:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Business and Industry Relations Manager is responsible for
supporting and building Energy Alabama’s relationships with businesses and Industry in Alabama and
those that want to do business in Alabama. The Business and Industry Relations Manager will work with the business community to ensure their voice on clean energy issues is heard in regulatory and policy related venues. The Business and Industry Relations Manager will provide significant assistance with, and take ownership of, Energy Alabama’s corporate membership program and will work with corporate members to inform and guide our education and policy priorities.
The Business and Industry Relations Manager is not responsible for managing staff.
The ideal candidate will be an outstanding “people-person” who is able to effectively convey the mission, education, and advocacy efforts of Energy Alabama to the Business and economic development community. The ideal candidate understands and is motivated by the fact that the work Energy Alabama does sometimes involves taking on powerful interests and can result in dynamic working situations against adversarial interests from time to time.
Compensation and Benefits:
● This is a full-time exempt position for 40 hours per week.
● Salary is expected to start around $75,000 per year, based on qualifications.
● Generous leave policy and 12 holidays recognized.
● 12 weeks paid parental leave (eligible after 6 months of employment)
● $75 per month phone stipend.

Key Results Areas:
● Lead Energy Alabama’s engagement with Business and Industry in support of clean energy in Alabama.
● Act as point person for Energy Alabama’s corporate membership program, with support from other team members.
● Plan and support Energy Alabama’s sponsored meetings and events for corporate members.
● In consultation with corporate members, support the crafting and pursuit of Energy Alabama’s policy and regulatory goals.
● Attend events and conferences throughout the state, promoting Energy Alabama and clean energy.
● Write op-eds and other articles for business, trade and general news publications, and our website, on topics relevant to advancing Energy Alabama’s mission.
● Track Business and Industry best practices in energy policy to help identify opportunities in Alabama.
● Work in partnership with trade associations, other organizations, and coalitions to further Energy Alabama’s goals.
About You:
● 3+ years related experience in business, economic development, and/or governmental relations
● Experience and relationships in Alabama are especially valued
● Passion for clean energy
● Strong written and verbal communication skills, including being comfortable with tense situations where others may oppose our efforts
● Willing to travel (frequency depending on your location) in-state to meet with local and state leaders
● Proactive self-starter
● Highly organized and conscientious and comfortable with technology such as Zoom, Slack, Google Workspace, and other digital platforms used in communication and business operations
● Ability to take initiative and work effectively both independently and as part of a team
● Naturally curious, outgoing, and resourceful
● Wants to be in the community actively engaging to build strong relationships

Energy Alabama has a 100% remote work environment, but our team meets in person throughout the year and anytime as needed. In addition to regular travel for performing your responsibilities, you may be asked to conduct occasional limited travel within the state to meet with your teammates. All work related travel is reimbursed by Energy Alabama.
