Why does the job exist?
This position is responsible for public safety. Bridge Engineers ensure that the bridges in the State are safe, reliable and efficient. This position will be a technical expert that will perform Quality Control/Quality Assurance reviews for internally designed bridges and structures and will represent the Bridge Bureau on projects that are designed by Consultants to ensure compliance with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Bridge Procedures and Design Guide as well as adherence to the NMDOT Project Development Process.
How does it get done?
- Coordinate with Project Development Engineers, Consultants, other sections and bureaus to ensure that assigned projects are completed on time and within budget. This task will be
- Give guidance and feedback to consultants and participate in reviewing consultant design plans/drawings as required. Design reviews shall be performed to ensure compliance with NMDOT
of documents.

- Participate in design meetings and inspections coordinated by the Project Development Engineers.
- Perform and/or coordinate Phase III Services, including processing of contractor's requests for information (RFI's) and shop drawings for various projects under construction.

The traveling public, NMDOT Districts and Regions, and the NMDOT Bridge Bureau.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have preferred experience/education in the following areas:
Minimum of four (4) years of experience with the NMDOT project development process. Detailed familiarity with the NMDOT Standard Drawings and Specifications. Advanced capability with PDF modification/markup software. Strong teamwork and work ethic qualities are desired. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also preferred.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline with licensure and six (6) years of engineering experience, two (2) of which must be as a Licensed Professional Engineer. Must be certified by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Employment requires successful completion of pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is substantially performed in and office setting with occasional field visits. Exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
