Viki's Creative Team is responsible for all aspects of Rakuten Viki's creative marketing production including User Acquisitions, CRM, and Brand Management, to ensure the perfect development and execution of top-notch campaigns and communications to bring premium Asian Entertainment to fans globally.
The Brand Marketing Copywriter will join our dynamic team, playing an integral role in shaping our brand's narrative. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and collaborative team player, bringing innovative ideas to the table with an unwavering commitment to detail. Our ideal candidate will be adept at storytelling, finding innovative ways to weave a compelling narrative for Viki's consumers. He/She/They will have the sharpest eye for catching and eliminating mistakes, ensuring our marketing materials reflect the highest standards of excellence. Additionally, this person will act as a gatekeeper for the tone of our brand voice across various platforms, ensuring consistency and resonance with our diverse audience.
This role will be based in San Mateo, CA and report to Director, Brand & Product Marketing.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Creation:
  • Develop creative and impactful copy for marketing campaigns, advertisements, landing pages, events, social media, and promotional materials
  • Develop captivating synopses that effectively communicate the plot, themes, and unique elements for each of Rakuten Viki's content offerings
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to brainstorm and generate innovative ideas for content that aligns with our brand. Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure brand and project alignment
  • Write scripts for video concepts for various ad-hoc creative projects

Brand Consistency:
  • Help create Viki's brand tone of voice for our marketing content across multiple channels
  • Work closely with Viki's product copywriter to ensure the brand voice is consistent across both the Viki service and our marketing channels
  • Work closely with the creative team to integrate copy seamlessly with visual elements
  • Demonstrate a keen eye for detail by catching and rectifying any errors, maintaining the highest standards of accuracy in all marketing copy

Market Research:
  • Stay informed about industry trends and cultural nuances to create content that resonates with our target audience
  • Conduct research on competitors and market trends to inform and enhance our messaging strategy

Proofreading and Editing:
  • Review and edit content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to brand guidelines
  • Coordinate the review, feedback and revision loops with various stakeholders including legal and leadership
  • Proactively identify and correct potential issues, showcasing a commitment to delivering polished and error-free materials

Qualifications:
  • Excellent English writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Bachelors in Communications, Journalism, English, Film or related fields preferred
  • Proven experience (3-4 years) as a copywriter in a creative or marketing role
  • Proven experience in writing engaging and effective synopses for Viki's television shows, films, or similar content
  • A deep understanding of storytelling principles and the ability to convey complex narratives in a concise and compelling manner
  • A strong portfolio showcasing diverse and creative writing samples
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Proactive and detail-oriented with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and pivot direction if needed
  • Passion for the Asian entertainment industry and a keen awareness of cultural sensitivities and preferences
  • Demonstrated excellence in both receiving and giving feedback
  • Willingness to work flexible hours with occasional meetings with Singapore and South Korea
  • Knowledge of Asana, Miro and CMS tools is a plus, not required
  • Proficiency in Portuguese, Korean, or Spanish is a plus, but not required

At the time of posting, Rakuten expects the base compensation for this role to be within the range shown below. Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location. The successful applicant for this role will be eligible for discretionary bonus, health, vision, dental insurance, 401k matching, PTO, Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and other employee benefits as the company implements.
