JOB SUMMARY

The Box Office Personnel Manageris responsible for executing recruitment and onboarding for Box Office Personnel. This role involves managing personnel logistics such as overseeing communications with the Box Office crew, maintaining contact lists, coordinating departmental incentives, and supporting temporary staffing goals. The Personnel Manager works closely with the Ticketing Coordinator and Ticketing & Box Office Manager to ensure efficient staffing and training for the Box Office.


This is a temporary, part-time, remote role running approximately April through October, 2024.

Work will be on site during Black Rock City (August through September, 2024).

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Project Administration and General Responsibilities (35%)

  • Administer yearly department incentives, event access, commissary access, and other support functions provided to staff.
  • Oversees the implementation of staff and scheduling-related technology.
  • Maintain up-to-date contact information, and update Box Office mailing lists annually
  • Create processes and provide support for checking-in crew members upon their arrival on-site, and checking-out crew upon shift completion.
  • Facilitate schedule changes, ensuring shifts are fully staffed.
  • Manage the supplies and assets inventories, distribution, and check-out/check-in processes where necessary.
  • Assist the Ticketing Manager in overseeing the Truck Pool.
  • Planning and executing all in-the-dirt staff meetings.


Crew Management (30%)

  • Work closely with Ticketing to help calculate and meet yearly recruitment quotas.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all potential Box Office staff throughout the year.
  • Review and interview applicants for Box Office crew roles.
  • Provide recommendations to Ticketing Operations regarding hiring, promotions, and dismissals.
  • Collaborate with Ticketing Operations, Box Crew, and People Operations to meet seasonal hiring deadlines.
  • Provide guidance and support for crew members transitioning into new roles.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing for all Box Office-related shifts in a timely manner.
  • Supervise, train, and schedule shifts for the Box Office Resource Assistants (BRAs).
  • Schedule and oversee refresher training for Box Office crew.
  • Support Shift Leads with shift rosters and provide meal pogs and other necessary resources required for smooth shift operations.


Communication (30%)

  • Assist with the production of digital Box Office training guides.
  • Respond to incoming volunteer questionnaires and assess them critically.
  • Address general inquiries from Box Office crew and escalate communications as needed.
  • Regularly communicate updates and information to the crew.
  • Maintain volunteer engagement pages.


Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%)

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


LEARNING AND TEACHING

  • Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
  • Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.
  • Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
  • Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.


QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

  • Ability to adjust schedule seasonally to work at the Burning Man event held in Nevada.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff, volunteers, management, and event participants.
  • Comfortable learning new technologies and their applications.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, conflict resolution, and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to adapt and manage on-site operations, including supervising and training staff.
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Ability to follow directions accurately and efficiently.
  • Must have participated in Burning Man.
  • Experience working with volunteers.


PREFERRED

  • Proficiency in G-suite, MS Office suite, web browsers, email clients, and scheduling software.
  • Proven experience in personnel management, preferably in a festival or event environment.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, overnights, and early mornings during the event period.

COMPENSATION:

Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay range for this position is $20.00 to $23.00 per hour.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Off-playa: Work is primarily sedentary in nature; no special demands are required.
  • On-playa: Work is primarily sedentary but will also include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore, this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and exposed to fumes or airborne particles, as well as possible extremes in temperature.
