QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Requirement: To meet the basic qualification requirements for this position, you must have professional legal training, be a graduate from a full course of study in a School of Law accredited by the American Bar Association, and be a member in good standing of a bar of a state, or territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.AND
GS-13: Must have at least two years of legal work experience as a practicing attorney in good standing that includes handling litigation matters.
GS-14: Must have at least three years of legal work experience as a practicing attorney in good standing that includes independently handling litigation matters.
Desired Qualifications -The ideal candidate for this position would have some of (but not limited to) the following experience: Experience providing legal and legislative services and policy advice in connection with audits, evaluations, investigations, special projects, legislation and regulations, ethics, whistleblower protection, Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act, and operations.
You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides legal advice and assistance to the senior executives, managers and staff of the OIG.
  • Resolves legal and factual issues with little or no preliminary instruction, making recommendations concerning policy determinations that affect OIG operations, and developing relationships with agency officials, DOJ attorneys and counterparts in other IG offices.
  • Assists in the preparation of subpoenas for issuance and helps facilitate subpoena enforcement matters.
  • Assists in litigating cases before administrative agencies such as Merit Systems Protection Board, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and other third parties.
  • Provides legal advice including, but is not limited to matters such as, audits, investigations, Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act requests, redaction matters, whistleblower protection, and internal OIG operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
