seeking a smart, driven, and experienced Boat Captain to join our Osborne
and Strike Mission Cleanup Team in a part-time, weather-dependent role.
Overview
As a 4ocean Boat Captain, you’ll be responsible for safely operating our
cleanup vessel while navigating the ocean, canals, rivers, and shorelines where
you’ll assist the crew in removing tires and other harmful debris from the
environment. Boat captains should expect to be outdoors for at least 8 hours
at a time, even during inclement weather conditions, including hot, rainy, or
cold conditions. Our cleanup vessels vary from single outboard 20ft Skiffs to a
Barge at just over 31 feet, with dual outboard propulsion. We work out of Boca
Raton, Port Everglades, and sometimes in the Florida Keys (there and back
day trips). This position’s schedule will be heavily influenced by the local
weather and sea conditions. Flexibility in your availability is crucial to
capitalize on safe weather conditions opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Ability to accommodate a flexible, “On Call” Schedule - from 1-10 times a month based on the best weather conditions opportunities
- Operating the cleanup barge to remove tires and other harmful debris from the environment
- Ensuring the safety of divers and crew
- Securing the vessel properly; dockside or on a trailer
- Performing safety equipment checks every morning before departing the dock
- Maintaining communication with the Operations Manager, Divers, and Deckhands
- Captain’s License - 100-ton
- Driver’s License, and reliable transportation to the (primarily) Ft Lauderdale area - Sometimes Boca or the Florida Keys - but you could ride down with the crew to keep your commute low.
- 3+ years of experience in boat handling
- Knowledge of local waterways
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
