Chops, Inc. is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for our Board of Directors.
Chops, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit, is on a mission to improve lives through music education and performing arts. We offer our students and musicians a positive, fun environment that emphasizes teamwork, self-discipline, and the pursuit of personal growth and performance excellence.
Our current programs include two steel-drum bands, an educational outreach program that provides free classroom steel-drum instruction to K-12 schools in the Greater Twin Cities, a drumline performing group, and four after-school drumline programs.
We also serve as fiscal sponsor and provide technical assistance for All City Music. All City Music is a black-owned, HBCU-style performing arts group that offers free programming to under-served students in grades 3 - 12. In addition to our fiscal sponsorship, Chops provides All City Music with financial support, and we partner with them on our shared mission to make quality music education and performance opportunities accessible to all students in our urban-core public schools in the Minneapolis & St. Paul area. For more information about All City Music, please visit www.allcitymusic.org.
Chops receives the majority of its revenues in the form of donations from our licensed charitable gambling operation, and also counts on support from local businesses, individual donors, and foundations.
Chops’ Board of Directors seeks to add individuals with a broad range of skill sets, including: fundraising/development, nonprofit governance, small business ownership, finance, and diversity of lived experiences. This is an exciting time to join Chops as we continue our strategic planning process.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a desire to take on a leadership role as a future Board officer (Chair, Treasurer, or Secretary). This is a great way to build your resume while giving back to our communities!
Our board meets virtually the third Tuesday of each month from 7 - 8 p.m., with in-person meetings approximately two times per year. On average, board members can expect to spend approximately 2 hours per month on board service (including the one-hour monthly meeting). Board officers (secretary, treasurer, and chair) average 4 hours of service per month. We do ask that 100% of board members contribute financially to Chops in an amount that is meaningful to them, but we have no minimum donation.
If our mission speaks to you and you would like to be considered for our Board, please email your resume and a cover letter explaining your interest in this role to: board@chopsinc.com.
Interested candidates should provide a resume and highlight the experiences and skills that you bring to the table to help Chops, Inc. advance our mission.
