Position Details - This is a 47-week position beginning on or around December 4th, 2023.
Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.
The Southeast Region Geospatial Resources Team provides Geographic Information Systems technical, project, and data support, as well as training and a community platform for all employees and partners of the National Park Service Southeast Region. We strive to improve the protection of and prevent the impairment to park natural and cultural resources, as well as to support park operations, planning, and facilities management.
This project will provide intern assistance to the NPS for improvement of geographic information systems (GIS) maps and spatial data for Blue Ridge Parkway (BLRI). The maps and data that will be improved are important for two reasons: 1) to assist parks with operations, planning, managing resources, and maintaining facilities; and 2) providing them to the public to enhance the visitor experience.
Position Responsibilities will include:
· Create maps of operational datasets (trails, roads, buildings, points of interest)
· Aggregate or create new data that BLRI identify as priorities
· Create maps and online geographic information visualization tools for both internal and public consumption

· Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $6895 (pre-tax).

Minimum Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in Geography or related field
· Taken two GIS related courses
· ArcGIS Pro experience
Preferred Qualifications:
· GIS certificate preferred
