Job description

There are 4 positions available in the Pacific Northwest Region (Region 6). For additional information about these positions, please contact the following:
The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of complex and recurring duties in support of wildlife habitat on the unit.

For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-05: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level. Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following. provided technical support in a wildlife management field environment by organized wildlife-related data; collected field data on wildlife habitat and vegetation, species condition, location, and status for habitat management and improvement plans; and maintained records of findings or results of Biological Science tests and procedures.
OR
a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school (120 semester/180 quarter hours) with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics and at least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to the position to be filled such as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management and zoology;
OR
a combination of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester/90 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
For the GS-06: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 grade level. Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following: Completed wildlife habitat project work, and/or assessed wildlife habitat environments, requirements, and inhabitants; Collected field data on wildlife habitat and vegetation, species condition, location, and status for habitat management and improvement plans; Compiled biological data obtained from aerial and ground surveys to determine vegetation type, wildlife and livestock use.
OR
one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position such as: mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management and zoology;
OR a combination of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university
For the GS-07: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-6 grade level. Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following Inspected wildlife habitat and/or nested sites and collected field data on wildlife habitat and vegetation, species condition, location, and status for the preparation of maps and habitat management and improvement plans; Compiled and summarized biological data obtained from aerial and ground surveys to determine vegetation type, wildlife and livestock use; and/or identify and evaluate habitat management;
OR
one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position such as: mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management and zoology;
OR
a combination of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Work Experience: Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience; the beginning day, month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title, and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed.
