Job Description
The Legal Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and accurate billing process within the firm. This position is responsible for assisting billing attorneys with prompt client billing, reviewing pre-bills, generating accurate invoices, and encouraging cyclical billing practices. The Legal Billing Specialist will work closely with attorneys and clients to ensure that all billing functions are completed timely and with high service levels.
The ideal candidate for this role should be passionate about organization, attention to detail, and providing exceptional client service. They will collaborate with various teams within the firm and anticipate and troubleshoot issues from the perspective of policy, personnel/attorneys, and clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assisting billing attorneys with prompt client billing.
Reviewing pre-bills for accuracy and completeness.
Generating accurate invoices and encouraging cyclical billing practices.
Regularly following up on unbilled accounts to ensure timely billing.
Ensuring that all billing functions are completed timely and with high service levels.
Anticipating and troubleshooting issues from the perspective of policy, personnel/attorneys, and clients.
Collaborating with attorneys and other teams to resolve billing-related inquiries and concerns.
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of billing policies and procedures.
Required Experience/Skills
Recent law firm billing experience is mandatory.
Proficiency in legal billing software (Aderant or ELITE).
Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
Strong typing/keyboard skills and ability to use a 10-key calculator by touch.
Ability to self-direct, prioritize tasks, and work with minimal supervision.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Willingness to work as part of a team.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience working in a large legal services or professional services organization.
Knowledge of effective legal billing procedures and electronic online billing applications.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field experience.
