Behavioral Health Therapist Schools Position
Salary Level: FULL TIME EXEMPT, PART TIME, and/or SCHOOL CALENDAR
REPORTS TO: BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CLINICAL SUPERVISOR
I. POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides Behavioral Health support to students in their school setting in which FSCA has an MOU to provide Behavioral Health support to students. Includes biopsychosocial assessments, diagnoses, and treatment of students with emotional, behavioral or mental health problems. Provide TF-CBT for trauma referrals, including supporting the school’s Handle with Care Referrals. Facilitates CBITS and Bounce Back groups. Provides drop-in support as needed. Provides crisis interventions, when necessary. Engages in school district activities that promote Behavioral Health wellness and awareness, as requested by CCO and school district administration. Provides professional development for school staff along with training for students and parent groups. Will also provide interventions that align with the multitier system and support Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports. Be part of the school’s Student Study Team process.
II. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. With support of CCO and direct supervisor, implement School Based Mental Health Services including Handle with Care TF-CBT, Mental Health, and CBITS/Bounce Back. Ensure that systems approach is developed and monitored to ensure fidelity with evidence based models and program requirements.
2. *Assist with developing and implementation of Behavioral Health trainings for educational staff, as requested by CCO or school district.
3. *Plans and or/participates in school district activities and county wide educators’ activities.
4. *Conducts a thorough biopsychosocial assessment with each client(s) referred to them and completes a thorough written assessment of each client(s).
5. *Uses a detailed working knowledge of DSM-V to include accurate diagnoses on every biopsychosocial assessment.
6. *Develops an appropriate treatment plan to intervene in a wide variety of emotional, behavioral, substance use or community-based problems.
7. *Provides ongoing assessment of clients’ psychosocial needs and updates treatment plans to address these needs, appropriately.
8. *Monitors progress toward meeting treatment goals, reviews progress with client, and reports on progress with respect to treatment goal(s) on an ongoing basis in addition to completing quarterly progress reports.
9. *Therapist may provide treatment based on a cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, systemic, or solution-focused model, or use elements of each in a treatment approach. Therapist is expected to have a working knowledge of each treatment framework.
10. *Fulfills reporting requirements of insurance companies that reimburse the agency for their services. Fulfills reporting requirements of public agencies that support our services with their clients.
11. *Participate in Student Assistance Team Meetings in the school setting to help support students, families, and education staff.
12. Attends relevant community meetings as requested by supervisor.
13. *Develop and maintain constructive and professional relationships with referral sources, school district staff, community colleagues, and collaborating professionals in addition to internal colleagues.
14. *Fulfills agency requirements for carrying out their responsibilities to the highest professional standards, including:
a) Maintains case records according to standards set forth in agency procedural manual.
b) Maintains productivity standards as outlined in agency manual.
c) Fulfills all agency requirements for statistical record keeping, program evaluation, quality assurance and attendance monitoring.
d) Assists with program evaluation and/or research.
e) Actively participates in regular clinical supervision and case review.
f) Attends staff meetings/trainings as requested.
g) Utilizes opportunities available for continued education for purpose of professional growth, as well as to maintain license and applicable certifications.
15. *Fulfills the requirements of all agency systems for statistical record keeping, reporting, program evaluation, quality assurance, internal control and attendance monitoring as appropriate to the position.
IV. QUALIFICATIONS:
● MSW, MA level counselor or psychologist, or Ph.D. counselor or psychologist; Michigan licensure.
● Strong assessment and treatment skills.
● TF-CBT, CBITS, and Bounce Back Training preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
● Experience in mental health/substance abuse services and/or experience in a school setting preferred.
● Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
● Experience utilizing an Electronic Medical Record system, preferred.
● Strong assessment and treatment skills, in addition to cultural sensitivity.
● Current valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
