Position Summary
The key objectives and outcomes for theBH Specialist/Psychometrist are to complete Behavioral Health screening and risk assessment, link individuals to the appropriate Behavioral Health services, and complete psychological testing in close partnership with the CrescentCare Clinical Psychologist. The BH Specialist/Psychometrist will work very closely with and receive training and coaching from their supervisor to ensure the objectives of this position are clear, attainable, and successfully achieved. Maintains a close working relationship with direct supervisor, participates in active supervision, and remains receptive to feedback on professional development to support a high level of performance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Screening
- Provide preliminary triage and risk assessment to determine acuity of needs for individuals requesting Behavioral Health services.
- If triage identifies emergency/crisis need take action to link the individual to emergency/crisis resources.
- If triage identifies routine need, take action to link the individual to routine clinical services.
- Use standardized, validated, and culturally and linguistically-appropriate assessment tools to provide initial evaluation including information gathered as a part of the preliminary triage and risk assessment to identify the immediate clinical care needs related to the diagnosis for mental health and substance use disorders.
- Documents screening and evaluation in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings as a part of the care team to plan for the care of persons served.
- Schedules appointments for internal specialty Behavioral Health appointments (e.g., skills groups, special events, psychological testing, etc.).
Psychometry
- Administer a variety of psychological tests, including intelligence tests, personality tests, and neuropsychological tests, in a standardized manner and according to specific protocols.
- Accurately score the assessments using appropriate norms.
- Observe each examinee’s behavioral conditions throughout the testing processes and provide observation summaries that may be used by the psychologist to aid in test interpretation.
- Management of the care, storage, and inventory of neuropsychological and psychological test materials, as well as patient test data.
- Responsible for various clerical or administrative duties that include but are not limited to patient scheduling, billing and coding of procedures, and procurement of office and testing supplies.
Qualifications
- Professional or community experience with populations of transgender, gender non-conforming, and/or BIPOC experience
- Preferred: fluency in Spanish and English
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in psychology or another health science field along with coursework, experience, or training in the areas of psychometrics or assessment procedures; Maximum education/training includes previously described education and training plus advanced mental health training
- Registration as an assistant to a psychologist (ATAP) with the Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (annually renewed)
- Pass a criminal background check from the Louisiana State Police, Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information
- Certification from the Board of Certified Psychometrists is preferrable
- 1 year of work experience in a mental health institution or similar setting
- Excellent observation and communication skills
- Strong critical-thinking and decision-making skills
- Knowledge of psychological testing procedures and statistics.
