Behavioral Health Program Director

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Program Leadership
• Provide consultation and clinical supervision to other Behavioral Health clinicians and trainees
• Develop, implement, and maintain a Behavioral Health Program utilizing Behavioral Health trainees
(Marriage and Family Therapist Trainees, Associate Marriage and Family Therapists, Associate
Professional Clinical Counselors, or Associate Clinical Social Workers) to provide short course
treatment for patients receiving sexual and reproductive health care with mild to moderate behavioral
health needs
• Maintain, grow, and optimize Behavioral Health Program that is integrated with a comprehensive family
medicine program, providing short to long term treatment for patients with mild to moderate behavioral
health needs
• Collaborate with human resources in the recruitment and coordination of Behavioral Health clinicians to
meet local needs for service delivery in accordance with quality standards and budget criteria
• Interview and check references of Behavioral Health clinician applicants
• Train, coordinate orientation, and monitor development of newly hired Behavioral Health clinicians and
trainees
• Evaluate the clinical performance of affiliate Behavioral Health clinicians and trainees
• Work with health center supervisors regarding disciplinary issues
• Assess skills in order to grant clinical privileges to Behavioral Health clinicians
• Develop, update, and maintain policies, procedures, and protocols related to the Behavioral Health
program
• Assess Behavioral Health Program compliance with clinical and operational standards and regulatory
requirements, including the review of incident reports, audits, data reports and dashboards
• Serve as liaison to the local medical and Behavioral Health community to develop support for PPMM
services and to foster referrals
• Provide clinical supervision to Behavioral Health trainees consistent with the requirements of the Board
of Behavioral Sciences, including:
- Ensure that the extent, kind and quality of counseling performed by the supervisee is consistent with the education, training and experience of the person being supervised.
- Monitor and evaluate the supervisee’s assessment, diagnosis and treatment decisions and providing regular feedback.
- Monitor and evaluate the ability of the supervisee to provide services at the site(s) where he or she will be practicing and to the particular clientele being served.
- Monitoring and addressing clinical dynamics, including, but not limited to, countertransference-, intrapsychic-, interpersonal-, or trauma-related issues that may affect the supervisory or the practitioner-patient relationship.
- Ensure compliance with all laws governing the practice of marriage and family therapy.
- Reviewing the supervisee’s progress notes, process notes, and other patient treatment records, as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
- With the patient’s written consent, providing direct observation or review of audio or video recordings of the supervisee’s counseling or therapy, as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
Clinical
• Participate in a treatment team with medical providers, nurses and others to screen, evaluate, assess
and treat patients with Behavioral Health needs, and communicate effectively with the treatment team
about in common patients, through electronic charting and in-person conversations.
• Provide evidenced based intervention/therapies for patients with Behavioral Health and substance
abuse conditions, meeting quality, customer service, and productivity expectations
• Provide referrals to other services in the community, when needed
• Encourage and facilitate ‘warm hand offs’ for same day visits from medical providers and other
members of the healthcare team
• Provide formal and informal consultation to medical providers and other treatment team members on
Behavioral Health issues of patients
• Provide crisis intervention for Behavioral Health difficulties when necessary
• Provide formal and informal education and training for medical providers and other treatment team
members on Behavioral Health conditions and their impact on whole health.
• Develop and maintain genuine, supportive and effective relationships with co-workers, to enhance the
functioning of the healthcare team and maintain a positive work environment for employees and
patients.
• Complete timely documentation in accordance with all applicable legal and ethical guidelines, and
consistent with PPMM protocols
• Complete timely billing/coding of all encounters in accordance with all applicable legal and ethical
guidelines and consistent with PPMM protocols
• Attend all mandatory clinical and administrative meetings
• Evaluating charts/histories to determine if intervention is necessary, and evaluating clients upon
clinician request
• Communication with clinicians through charting and brief verbal consultations, when necessary
• Evaluation of patient treatment progress
• Demonstrate PPMM customer service standards
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Serve on appropriate task forces and committees
• Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to perform the duties described above. A typical means of acquiring those abilities would be:

as needed and executing projects accurately and completely.
REQUIREMENTS
• Graduation from an accredited program with an MFT, MSW, or clinical psychologist required
• Licensure by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (LCSW, LMFT, Licensed Psychologist) that is
not under suspension or probation
• Licensed as LCSW, LMFT or Licensed psychologist for at least 2 out of the last 5 years
• 5 years of related experience in Behavioral Health, including in a community-based setting
• 1 year of experience in program management and oversight
• 2 years of experience providing clinical supervision to other Behavioral Health clinicians
• Bilingual English/Spanish skill preferred
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the affiliate
