Job Description
Job Title: Behavior Specialist Grades K-4
Supervisor: Principal at Ocean Crest Elementary School
QUALIFICATIONS:
- General qualifications of a teacher
- Valid Oregon Teachers license
- Recent successful experience as a teacher
- Training and experience in current teaching practices
- Experience with building-wide behavior supports, Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan preferred (will train, as needed).
JOB GOAL:
Provide greater individualization of social emotional/behavioral instruction through interactions with students. Provide direction and an environment which enables children to acquire learning skills needed to make responsible choices. In turn, enabling the teacher and administrator to devote more time and energy to the primary task of teaching students.
Essential Duties
- Lead Student Study Team (SST) meetings regarding behavior
- Run Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions
- Work one on one or in small groups to support student needs
- Maintain necessary records and reports ensuring confidentiality of students and their families
- Analyze and use data to inform interventions
- Effectively communicate with administrators, teachers, students, and families
- Collaborates with school staff to inform intervention and prevention strategies for students
- Acts as a resource to administrator, school mental health therapist, teachers, and health services personnel at the assigned school
- Is approachable, identifies students in need - reaches out.
- Provides trauma-sensitive support and provides resources and referral
- Models inclusive and equitable practice in all activities
- Safe, non-punitive student support
- Provides bridge/connections for student and family-identified needs
- Provide social, emotional and behavioral support for students using the strategies that you will learn through the course of the training program provided by the ESD
A well-qualified specialist should have the following characteristics:
- Knowledge or ability to obtain knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principles, and practices
- Knowledge or ability to obtain knowledge of racial equity and racial justice in the context of public education
- Knowledge or ability to obtain knowledge in Google Suites and School-wide Information System (Synergy)
- A demonstrated desire or willingness to support youth
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with a broad range of school-based staff
- Ability to interact with students with non-judgement, compassion and in a way that demonstrates connection and effective listening and responding skills
- Trained in ACES or willingness to participate in a 2 hour ACES training
