Classification: Hourly Non-Exempt – Part Time

Barista responsibilities include educating customers on our drinks menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders. To be successful in this role, you should have excellent customer service skills and knowledge of how brewing equipment operates

Customer Experience:
- Ensure we deliver our service expectations and quality at all times.
- Prioritize the guest experience.
- Greet every customer immediately in a friendly manner before they greet us.
- Meet the company performance standards for quality of drink preparation and presentation.
- Providing customers with drink menus and answering their questions regarding ingredients.
- Demonstrate a passion for coffee and product knowledge expertise to customers.
- Meet the company standards for speed of service.
- Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios.

Operational excellence:
- Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios.
- Prepare beverages following recipes.
- Serve beverages and prepared pastries.
- Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards).
- Keep the bar area clean.
- Maintain stock of clean mugs and plates.
- Hand wash dishware according to the health and safety protocol.
- Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items.
- Clean, straighten and sanitize the store throughout the day per company guidelines.
Food and Equipment Safety:
- Understand and maintain food safety standards.
- Understand what it means to be food safe and maintain that standard at all times.
- Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs.
- Comply with health and safety regulations.
Requirements and skills
- Ability to acquire Food Handler’s Certificate within the first 30 days of employment.
- Previous work experience as a Barista or Server preferred.
- Latte art ability is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with brewing equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of sanitation regulations.
- Flexibility to work various shifts.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to gauge customers’ preferences.
- Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on listening.
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant training is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Close proximity to coworkers and customers.
- Exposure to hot liquid and steam.
- Lifting and carrying food and drink trays.
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Working with brewing and grinding equipment.
