Software Development Engineer (Legacy Systems)

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for a passionate, data-driven, team-oriented individual to join our innovative wholesale company that is quickly emerging as a leader within the industry. It is a pivotal and exciting time for our company as we continue to grow our workforce, expanding operations, supply chain, marketing, Software Development, and sales teams.

The Software Development Engineer builds and maintains software across various platforms for our company. In this role, the Software Development Engineer will identify, plan, and execute integration strategies, create tools for other developers, ensure ongoing monitoring, and maintain as well as optimize builds.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Maintain, support and extend our existing software systems to support business needs and ensure continuity of operations.
• Evaluate existing software systems to ascertain opportunities to address critical software defects.
• Provide tools to maximize our customer’s ability to execute operational functions with minimal IT assistance.
• Work with other developers and development teams to provide abstracted solutions to maximize code and process reuse in existing systems as well as new development.
• Coordinating activities with other developers to ensure that projects are completed on time.
• Ensuring that best practices are followed by the organization.
• Checking and correcting conflicts in data configurations and overlaps.
• Maintaining the integrity and smooth functioning of the company's software systems.
• Analyzing and improving current software and database performance metrics.
• Identifying, debugging, and advising on system errors or architecture issues.
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements and perform data analysis.
• Assisting with the management of organizational databases and retrieval systems.
• Provide 3rd Tier Operational Support, working closely with stakeholders and IT Helpdesk personnel
• Work within a team environment and facilitate the success of Software Development through participation in code reviews, agile ceremonies, and continuous improvement activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Experience implementing cross-application business processes
• Superior programming skills that relate to code development, maintenance, and implementation
• Interpersonal skills along with the ability to work in a team
• A keen eye for detail and the ability to spot and fix errors in complex code
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Strong attention to detail with an analytical mind and outstanding problem-solving skills

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related qualification
• 2 years' experience as a programmer or computer scientist
• Excellent knowledge of two or more programming languages (C#, Java, Objective-C, SQL or others)
• Excellent knowledge of relational database management systems, specifically SQL Server.
• EDI Experience a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; Ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and making fine discriminations in sound. Must be able to remain in a stationary position and/or upright, for prolonged periods of time, traverse stairs, reach overhead, squat, bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch occasionally during 8-10-hour work shift.
