Position Description:
At LeoStella, we’ve recently introduced our next-generation satellite platform, LS-300, to meet the varied and evolving needs of government and commercial customers seeking access to space. The new satellite has enhanced capabilities to accommodate heavier and more complex payloads while performing demanding missions.
Our embedded systems group is continuing development of our next generation flight software, for use on our next-generation satellite and across our product line for years to come. We’re looking for Software Engineers who enjoy working closely with hardware in an agile, dynamic environment.
We have plenty of opportunities for growth and ownership across different projects, with focuses in areas including cryptography, DevOps, ADCS, satellite power systems, and more. You’ll work collaboratively across our embedded systems group and other teams at LeoStella to help in building and delivering low-earth-orbit satellites at scale. You’ll have the opportunity to make a large impact across multiple programs from cradle to grave.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and document software requirements, verification plans and software use-cases
- Support design and development of software components critical to solving problems in space
- Design and develop and test flight software and test scripts
- Ensure that adequate test, inspection, and analysis is performed to verify compliance with requirements
- Support major customer reviews of software integration & test efforts
- Resolve bugs, found by yourself, other developers, test engineers, systems engineers, production, or operations
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers from multiple disciplines – systems, electrical, mechanical, etc. - to deliver mission-critical products on-time and on-budget.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. Person.Due to government regulation of the space industry, this requirement cannot be waived.
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
- Experience delivering and maintaining commercial software in a production environment
- Ability to engineer clean and maintainable C/C++ and Python code
- Expertise in embedded systems running Linux 5.15
- Outstanding problem solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
Nice to Have:
- Linux Expertise specifically using Buildroot or Yocto build systems for custom RFS’s
- Board bring-up for Linux.
- Professional experience with DevOps – AWS, Docker, CI/CD, Jenkins, Gitlab, etc.
- Familiarity with hardware interfaces (GPIO, I2C, SPI, CAN, USART, PHY, SpaceWire, Cameralink, RS-422), or high-speed interfaces (10G Ethernet, DMA, PCIe)
- Experience with Real Time Operating Systems, including FreeRTOS
- Familiarity with boot loaders, u-boot or Barebox
- Experience with Xilinx; Ultrascale+, ZCU102, KV/KR-260 or FPGA’s
- Space Industry Experience, and familiarity with relevant components of satellite development
Additional Notes:
- Pay Rate - $60-90/hr W2, depending on experience level.
- Length of contract – 6 months, with possibility of extension on a 6-month basis.
- Potential to convert to FTE
- Location – Looking ideally for folks based in WA state, but for the right person we do have remote flexibility with 10-25% travel
- For WA candidates - Eligibility for Paid Safe Sick Leave (1 hour sick time, for every 40 hours of work)
