Job description

Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama is seeking applicants for a full-time, fixed-term Audio Technician to join our team in the School of Drama! The position will begin 8 January 2024, and end 5 May 2024. This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who thrives in a creative and fast paced work environment. This person will contribute to the department by providing essential support for physical production and events as well as helping to maintain audio equipment and infrastructure.
Core responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising the installation of theatrical audio systems in a theater
  • Mentoring students in the process of installing theatrical audio systems in a theater
  • Serving as a crew member and/or participating in the above activities, either under student supervisors, or solo especially when students are not available.
  • Engineering and construction of practical audio devices for use in theatrical production
  • Other duties as assigned

Flexibility, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within the School of Drama. Inclusion, collaboration and cultural sensitivity are valued competencies at CMU. Therefore, we are in search of a team member who is able to effectively interact with a varied population of internal and external partners at a high level of integrity. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work.
The work of an Audio Technician often involves a need to work at heights greater than 30', use of a ladder or personnel lift, the lifting and/or carrying of awkward and/or heavy objects and the manipulation of hand tools and equipment in small or confined spaces for short periods of time. While the ability to perform these tasks is not necessary to fulfill the primary goal of this position, if these scenarios present themselves the Audio Technician will need to be able to find alternative means of completing the tasks involved.
Qualifications:
  • Two years' experience as a Audio Technician in the entertainment industry
  • Experience as head Audio Technician on at least three theatrical productions
  • Knowledge of and experience in maintaining entertainment audio equipment
  • Experience programming theatrical audio control consoles (Yamaha and Digico consoles preferred)
  • Experience with audio networks and Dante

Requirements:
