Job description

The Associate Vice President of Virtual Care Institute provides executive leadership for strategic planning, development, implementation, and advancement of Virtual Care models used in the clinical and research environments of VCU Health System's hospital, clinics, clinical departments, and offices of affiliated physicians to enable the VCUHS vision, mission, and goals. Reporting to the VCUHS COO and working in partnership with senior leader and clinical colleagues, the AVP will develop and oversee short- and long-term strategic plans, capital and operating budgets, and day-to-day operations of all components of the Virtual Care Institute in alignment with internal needs and current market trends. The AVP ensures that the strategy and its implementation are in full alignment with VCUHS's mission and vision and is a key thought leader inside and outside the organization, working to develop and increase success of the VCU Health brand in Virtual Care.
Essential Job Statements

  • Develop and execute short- and long-term strategic plans for the Virtual Care Institute. Develop and provide KPI (key performance indicators) to establish the appropriate framework for organizational metrics to align with overall organizational strategy. Create streamlined/standardized processes to allow curation of our Virtual Care portfolio and promote business development in key areas in alignment with strategic goals and objectives. Routinely report progress to the Virtual Care Institute Steering Committee.
  • Lead Virtual Care programs for design and execution of technology-enabled process change that maximizes patient safety, quality of care, strategic growth, and operational efficiency. Work with medical directors to promote research, teaching, and innovation.
  • Work closely with the executive sponsors and governance team responsible for Virtual Care-related decision-making and promote agreed-upon solutions and models in alignment with VCUHS strategic objectives. Identify and escalate risks and issues and ensure appropriate regulatory and compliance controls are in place.
  • Develop and manage capital and operating budgets to meet organizational objectives. Ensures department operates within operational budget and track projects to ensure they are delivered within budget and achieving targets when benchmarked against established goal as set forth by the steering committee or other designated executive leaders.
  • Develop service level standards and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to monitor safety, quality, and financial performance. Monitor performance utilizing various dashboards, scorecards, statistical and reporting methodologies to ensure goals are achieved.
  • Recruit and retain team members and develop high-performing teams. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and commitment to customer service, as well as create teams that are agile, responsive, technically skilled, and have a sound understanding of business needs.
  • Drive a focus on value through continuous improvement to ensure Virtual Care processes are effectively designed, documented, implemented, and communicated to internal and external business partners. Standardization of people, process, and technology to create a system-level approach to Virtual Care.
  • Demonstrates and promotes the discipline of Virtual Care to improve clinical practice quality, contribute to medical education and gain competitive advantage in the healthcare marketplace. Serves as a representative of VCUHS to other organizations concerning implementation and integration of Virtual Care across the continuum of care.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws affecting all levels of the organization. Develop routine audit standards to evaluate operations for compliance and improvement regularly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects to support the mission of VCUHS and the Department.

Employment Qualifications
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in business, Health Care Administration or closely related field.
Preferred Education:
Advanced degree in related field
Licensure/Certification Required:
Licensure/Certification Preferred:
Certification in Diversity Equity and Inclusion preferred
Minimum Qualifications
Years and Type of Required Experience:
10 years of related leadership experience including 5+ years in leadership role with significant business impact

Working Conditions

General office environment.
Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
Long-distance or air travel as needed- not to exceed 10% travel.
May have periods of constant interruptions.
