Job description

The Virtua Health College of Medicine & Life Sciences of Rowan University is an innovative and historic academic health partnership between Rowan University and Virtua Health and a vehicle for enhanced collaboration between two of its constituents, the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Rita & Larry Salva School of Nursing & Health Professions, to prepare the healthcare workforce of the future and to improve patient care, health, and wellness for all in a diverse community.

We are accepting applications for the position of Associate Program Director for PhysicianAssistant Studies. The program will be offered on the campus of Rowan College of Jersey in Sewell, NJ, which also houses the Sewell campus of the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine. The Associate Program Director will report to the Director of the Physician Assistant Program and will work closely with program personnel to develop and administer the program in compliance with the standards of the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA).

The Associate Program Director is responsible for assisting the Program Director with the administration and function of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. The position is a full-time 12-month appointment with academic responsibilities including administration and teaching for clinical practice within Rowan Medicine, an affiliate of Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine and the Virtua Medical Group. Initially, academic responsibilities will be devoted to administration as necessary to achieve provisional accreditation and program launch.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Chair department meetings in the absence of or at the request of the Program Director
  • Chair PA program committees as appointed by the Program Director
  • As requested, assist the Program Director with budget planning and other administrative activities
  • As directed by the Program Director, assist with preparation of grants, reports, and self-studies related to funding and accreditation
  • Exercise administrative and functional supervision over support staff as determined by the Program Director
  • Administrative and other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director
  • Serve as program representative and spokesperson to the university, college, community, and profession
  • Assist the Program Director in the coordination and production of information related to program accreditation to ensure the ARC-PA Standards are met and maintained
  • Develop and administer recruitment, training, onboarding and mentoring of new faculty
  • Participate in the development and design of the Physician Assistant Program
  • Provide instruction to graduate-level Physician Assistant students in courses as assigned by Program Director
  • Course-direct, develop, implement, and analyze graduate level Physician Assistant courses in the PA program
  • Evaluate student performance as needed throughout the PA curriculum
  • Provide academic counseling of graduate PA students as assigned by Program Director
  • Assist with and provide remedial instruction throughout the curriculum as assigned by the Program Director
  • Assist with the comprehensive data collection, self-assessment, evaluation, analysis, and implementation of action plans necessary for the ongoing evaluation of the PA program
  • Participate in professional development directly related to PA education
  • Assist with the development, review, and revision of the PA program mission, goals, and competencies.
  • Capstone project advising as assigned by Program Director
  • Participate in recruitment, screening, and selection of PA student applicants
  • Participate in program, college and university-related search committees
  • Participate in regular faculty meetings, retreats, program, college and university committees, and professional organizations
  • Attend local, state, and national conferences and designated programs pertinent to Physician Assistant education and practice to enhance teaching, management and/or clinical abilities
  • Engage in scholarly activities, community service, and program related grant or research projects
  • Serve on college and university committees and task forces
  • Maintain membership in national, state and local professional organizations
  • Participate in community service activities and university outreach

Qualifications

  • Must be a Physician Assistant holding current NCCPA certification with current licensure in the State of New Jersey
  • Must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
  • Must hold at least a Master’s (terminal) degree
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in clinical practice as a Physician Assistant
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in Physician Assistant Education
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, including good oral and written communication abilities
  • Must have familiarity with common office and academic software

NOTE: This faculty appointment is Tenure Eligible and may be granted upon successful completion of criteria listed in the Rowan-Virtua SOM Faculty Bylaws.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
