Associate Professor- Technical Communication and Information Design - 30630 Faculty
Description The Technical Communication and Information Design (TCID) Department at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs invites applications for Associate Professor and Director of the department. The position begins August 2024. TCID at UCCS is a dynamic, stand-alone department, having grown considerably since its creation in 2020 and seeks a visionary, collaborative leader to continue the program's exceptional momentum. TCID currently rosters 9 full time faculty and counts ~70 majors. The department hosts an accelerated master's degree with MBA (TCID bachelor's + MBA in five years); the BA degree in TCID; a minor and certificate in User Experience and a minor and certificate in Technical Writing. TCID also supports four badges available both to enrolled students and to the community through extended studies. The department has deep relationships with local industry and community partners, having actively worked with multiple organizations to place students in internships, secure guest speakers, and complete class projects that translated into actual implementation at partner organizations. The department has also recently received significant financial and in-kind gifts to support student programming. The department director reports to the dean of the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences, and holds a tenured, 9-month appointment with an additional stipend for the chair position with the expectation of 12-month availability. This will be offered based on the emergency and allowance will come from leadership and the guidelines provided at the time of the emergency. This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). What We Offer:
    Associate Professor Generally starting at $78,000-$80,000 per academic year. Director of TCID receives a $9,000 stipend per academic year.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Tentative Search Timeline:
    Priority will be given to applications submitted by November 30th, 2023 by 5:00pm. However, this posting will remain open until filled. The potential dates for first round interviews will be the week of January 8th, 2024. The potential employee start date is August 12th, 2024.

Qualifications
Please note that while the position details both required qualifications as well as preferred qualifications below, we want applicants to be aware that they do not need to have all of the desired skills and experience to be considered for this position. Minimum Qualifications:
    PhD in Technical Communication/Writing; User Experience; or Rhetoric with an emphasis in Technical Communication Minimum of three years leading an academic program/department (e.g. university Technical Communication/writing program; department chair) Minimum of five years teaching Technical Communication and Information Design courses Holds the rank of tenured, Associate Professor at a peer (or higher) institution A minimum of 7 years of published research in Technical Communication and Information Design

Preferred Qualifications:
    Research and/or teaching specialties in UX/usability/eXperience Design/LXD, with leading-edge technology (AI, AR/XR, etc.), visual data, and/or information architecture Experience in interdisciplinary program development Experience in community outreach and developing innovative initiatives for students Experience in developing industry internships/partnerships for undergraduate students Committed to collaborative leadership Exceptional Communication and interpersonal skills

Employee must be able to teach in person, communicate with students, faculty, and staff and conduct research and/or produce scholarship/creative work.
