Job description

THE POSITION

The Planning and Development Services Division of the Department of Land Use & Transportation is recruiting for two Associate Planner positions in the Community Planning section of Long Range Planning!

The work of these two Associate Planner positions may include (but not be limited to) the review of applications for annexations and comprehensive plan amendments, working on a community plan with a senior planner, compiling technical data, performing analysis and writing issue papers on land use, housing or natural resource policy topics, representing LUT on various committees, and researching and writing code language and standards.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate understands the principles and practices of land use, development review, and Oregon state law as it applies to the development code. They should have good critical thinking, analytical and writing skills. They should also have experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, presenting materials to elected officials and the public, and in working well in both a team setting and independently. Excellent customer service skills are required.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's Degree in urban or regional planning, geography, architecture, community development, economics, environmental studies, or a related field; AND two (2) years of work experience in planning. OR
  • A Master's Degree in urban or regional planning, geography, architecture, community development, economics, environmental studies, or closely related field; AND one (1) year of work experience in planning.
ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have the ability to arrange for timely transportation in order to attend appointments and meetings at locations throughout the State of Oregon.

This is a non-represented position and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment. Job share employees are responsible for 50% of the premium. Part-time regular, variable hour, and temporary positions are not eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits.
