Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:
An Associate has the responsibility of managing, supporting, and interacting with the firm’s clients to undertake and achieve the scope of work associated with client representation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Manage and support firm’s engagement and related scope of work in the area of government relations, strategic communications, public relations, and community outreach.
- Develop and execute strategies and related activities to ensure client’s Public Affairs agenda and legislative priorities are accomplished.
- Work closely with the firm’s clients on a broad range of government affairs and communications related activities including meeting with elected officials or their staff, attending and monitoring public meetings, conducting legislative research, drafting speaking points, drafting press releases, managing media outreach, social media strategy, and advising on emergent public policy issues and ballot measures.
- Develop and maintain strong working relations with elected officials, senior public agency staff, and media contacts.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with other key constituencies and groups engaged in local and regional public policy making including business groups, transportation advocates, environmental organizations, labor unions, human service providers, and arts and culture organizations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree plus three-five (3-5) years working in public policy, government relations, communications, or economic development. In addition, the following qualifications are desired:
- Demonstrated experience exhibited in public policy arena.
- Familiarity with city, county, and state government structures and legislative and political processes.
- Experience with grassroots advocacy, community organizing, or lobbying.
- Familiarity with local media and experience managing communications projects.
- Ability to exercise strategic judgment and diplomacy in a wide variety of Public situations and high-profile issues.
- Ability to work with a variety of constituencies including business leaders, public officials, and community representatives.
- Experience managing social media campaigns.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong collaboration and consensus building skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Well-developed presentation skills.
