Term: Full-time, occasional evening and weekends required

Position Status: Exempt

Pay Range: $70,000 - $80,000/year commensurate with experience.

Reports to: Program Manager, CPHB

Requirements: Access to reliable transportation

ABOUT THE ROLE: The Center for the Prevention of Hate and Bullying (CPHB), a project sponsored by the California chapter of CAIR (CAIR-CA) is looking for a passionate and talented individual to fill the Associate Marketing and Media Manager, CPHB position. The CPHB was launched to implement strategies that proactively address incidents of hate that target African, Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI), Black, immigrant, Middle Eastern, Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim communities across the state of California. The CPHB utilizes a comprehensive approach to systematically address issues of hate by focusing on training, advocacy, partnerships, education, and data. The Associate Marketing and Media Manager will lead the CPHB's efforts to brand and market the CPHB, its work, and initiatives. The Associate Marketing and Media Manager will implement a comprehensive media and public relations strategy that capitalizes on the CPHB's expertise and enhances the CPHB's image with key constituencies. The Associate Marketing and Media Manager will be responsible for helping to plan, develop, and implement all aspects of the CPHB's online, social media, and traditional media presence including, but not limited to developing an interactive website, social media accounts, and relationships with traditional media. The Associate Marketing and Media Manager will work to ensure the CPHB's media presence is impactful and relevant to various key audience members including, but not limited to, partner foundations and organizations, funders, elected officials, schools, and the community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In coordination with the Program Manager and interim Director, develop and implement an integrated, state-wide strategic media and public relations plan that will allow the CPHB to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted audiences, including the media, public officials, funders, partner organizations, and key influencers.
  • Oversee strategic initiatives to target and engage partner organizations, foundations, allies, and community members across digital channels. This strategic initiative will include working with translators to disseminate information in key languages.
  • Create and manage the CPHB's website and implement a vision and strategy for the website, in coordination with the Program Manager and interim Director, to ensure the CPHB's strong online presence.
  • Manage and maintain the CPHB website with updated content.
  • Create and manage the CPHB's social media vision and strategy through compelling and attention-grabbing daily messaging to create awareness among our audience.
  • Create strategic content, including graphics, for all external communications via email, social media, WhatsApp, and printed materials such as flyers/pamphlets.
  • Establish tracking and report on metrics that help enhance the performance of CPHB's digital initiatives.
  • Work with CAIR-CA's offices' media teams to coordinate media efforts across CPHB and CAIR-CA social media platforms.
  • Serve as a lead point person on media interactions (editors, reporters, producers and other media professionals) and actively cultivate and manage media relationships.
  • Draft and edit all external communications including press statements/releases, fact sheets, e-mails, e-newsletters, and action alerts.
  • Manage the digital launch of major reports, campaigns, and events.
  • Review, edit, and proofread CPHB's publications and reports.
  • Manage contract workers including graphic designers, photographers, videographers, and translators.
  • Experience creating and editing social media and longer form videos is a plus but is not required.
  • Other duties include tracking media mentions, assisting with data (collection, input, and management), and covering events for use on social media platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred -- in the field of Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field.
  • 3-5 years of work experience in a communications/public relations/social media management role.
  • Experience developing and implementing communications strategies.
  • Experience with website development and maintenance. Foundational understanding of design and visual elements and how to create simple yet effective graphics.
  • Experience managing and writing copy for social media is necessary.
  • Familiarity in communicating with the Muslim community or other marginalized communities is a plus.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe photoshop/In-Design/Illustrator, or other graphic design programs is a plus.
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical level.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives.
