POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of The Head Librarian, the Associate Librarian provides a wide variety of public, technical, and clerical services including information literacy presentations, reference services, copy and original cataloging, circulation services, and administrative support.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The actual duties required of this position will vary.

  • Provides circulation assistance (check in/out) including resolving disputes about missing items, fines, and overdue materials
  • Assists the educational community with general library support, including online library resources
  • Pulls materials from the collection for classroom and instructor needs
  • Perform processing of new materials
  • Re-shelve returned materials
  • Conducts occasional library orientations and information literacy presentations
  • Coordinates with academic departments, staff, and the Head Librarian regarding the creation and updating to information literacy presentations
  • Performs basic physical preservation of library material
  • Manages interlibrary loan requests, acquisitions, and returns
  • Manages acquisition, processing, and cataloging of new screenplays and teleplays
  • Assists Head Librarian in coordinating with donors as well as in the selection and processing of donated material
  • Assists Head Librarian in collection development
  • Assists Head Librarian in periodic collection weeding projects
  • Assists in managing digital archive of student work
  • Assists Head Librarian with managing the physical layout of library collections
  • Manages the library periodical archive
  • Participate in training sessions run by the school related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Manages the creation of departmental promotional materials and library displays
  • Administrative and managerial duties as necessary in the absence of the Head Librarian
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from a school accredited by the American Library Association.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 - 2 years of academic library experience preferred

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk and hear; use hands to keyboard, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch
  • Requires sitting at a desk for prolonged periods
  • Requires use of a computer (keyboard, monitor etc.) for prolonged periods
  • Requires moving around the campus including climbing stairs and walking up to six blocks
