AFO Associate

Dean Dorton, one of Kentucky’s largest regional full-service accounting and business advisory firms, has an opportunity for an Accounting and Financial Outsourcing Associate, within our Accounting and Financial Outsourcing (AFO) Services team. The primary responsibility of this entry-level role is to support Dean Dorton clients and service teams in carrying out the responsibilities of daily accounting functions.
- Process all invoices (accounts payable) received for Dean Dorton clients and manage payment in an accurate, efficient and timely manner. This includes receiving invoices, coding invoices in the appropriate accounting software and processing payment.
- Record incoming payments (accounts receivable) for Dean Dorton clients into the appropriate accounting software. And, if necessary, draft deposits slips and deposit payments into client accounts.
- Review the general ledger to ensure expenses are coded to the appropriate GL accounts.
- Support month-end-close procedures by gathering supporting documents and producing financials (balance sheet, P&L)
- Make appropriate month end adjusting journal entries as needed.
- Complete bank reconciliations.
- Administer payroll by entering hours into the client specific accounting software and submitting to a third party for processing. This also includes producing reporting for accounting records and to ensure accuracy.
- Support preparation of sales and use tax returns.
- Support preparation of quarterly payroll tax returns.
- Prepare and file Form 1099 for clients.
- Support Dean Dorton’s Tax team in meeting client needs, cleaning up client books and gathering necessary information.
- Carry out ad hoc accounting projects as requested.
- All other duties as assigned.
Technical Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a minimum of two (2) years related experience required.
- Conceptual familiarity with general accounting duties.
- Classroom or working knowledge of basic accounting software preferred.
Soft Skill Qualifications
- Flexibility in addressing client needs as they arise.
- Time management and organizational skills required as this role will handle multiple clients.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and timely with client, outside vendors, and team members.
- Problem solving skills to effectively solve unique client accounting issues.
