Associate Editor

The Associate Editor will support the development of various editorial content for Cleaning & Maintenance Managementmagazine (CMM), Cleanfax magazine, ISSA Today magazine, and related media products. The Associate Editor will be actively involved in writing, editing, fact-checking, and proofreading original and contributed content to bolster our existing team and increase the efficiency of our workflows. The Associate Editor will be competent in print and digital content development and communications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities (but not limited to):

• Write original content for ISSA media brands and their respective social media outlets
• Fact-check, edit, and proofread contributed content
• Assist managing editors with author/contributor outreach as needed
• Provide editorial backup for webcasts and sales/marketing email preparation as needed
• Assist with the production of webcasts and other online media

Expectations:

• Ability to write, edit, and proof copy of varying lengths and scopes quickly and accurately with attention to detail
• Know how to fact check and can spot/correct inaccuracies/plagiarized content
• Excellent business communication skills
• Strong reporting and interviewing capabilities for in-person, on-site and over-the-phone circumstances
• Good interpersonal skills; a team player
• Ability to discern editorial from sales copy
• Open to feedback; can take a suggestion and apply it quickly and consistently

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or communications
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofing skills
• Knowledge of and experience applying journalistic principles, interviewing, fact checking, sourcing
• Skilled writer and editor with proven experience creating and managing website content
• Capable of meeting a combination of daily and long-term deadlines on a regular and ongoing basis
• Understanding of the necessary balance between editorial and sales in the print and digital world
• Know how to properly vet and attribute sources
• Experience writing/editing content for different lengths and scopes, i.e. short news items and feature length content.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and the Adobe Suite a plus
