The Associate Copy Editor is responsible for reviewing various types of content to keep a consistent message throughout all the various methods of communication that True Value offers to its customers, both wholesale and retail.
Responsibilities: (May perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned).
1. Collaborate across marketing, communications and design team
2. Review and correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors in written content.
3. Ensure consistency in language, style, and formatting throughout all materials.
4. Verify facts, item descriptions and dates for accuracy.
5. Collaborate with marketing, communications and designers to ensure content meets quality standards and deadlines.
6. Maintain familiarity with style guides, such as AP Stylebook, Chicago Manual of Style, or in-house style guides, and ensure compliance with relevant guidelines.
7. Provide constructive feedback to writers and designers to improve clarity, coherence, and overall quality of content.
8. Conduct thorough proofreading and editing passes on various types of content, including circulars, sales materials, social media posts, and marketing materials.
9. Prioritize tasks effectively and manage workload to meet deadlines.
10. Keep abreast of industry trends and developments in language usage, grammar rules, and publishing standards.
Education & Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
2. 3-5 years’ experience in proofreading, copywriting within a marketing team or similar industry.
3. Exceptional command of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
4. Strong attention to detail and ability to spot errors quickly and accurately.
5. Strong analytical skills including but not limited to Word, PowerPoint, Excel Monday.com and ZiFlow.
6. Excellent communication skills and ability to provide clear and constructive feedback.
7. Ability to work independently as well as collaborate effectively with team members.
8. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
9. A passion for accuracy and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
