Job Description
The Facility Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Rhombus Power facilities, ensuring a consistently safe, presentable, and functional environment for Rhombus employees and visitors. You will primarily be responsible for Rhombus' HQ in Palo Alto, with surge support for our DC office and other Rhombus locations. This is an in-person, hands-on, and fast-moving role that requires someone that brings their strong technical background and an 'A-game' to every interaction and work order.
Under the supervision of our Facilities Manager, the Facility Maintenance Assistant will perform a variety of tasks, including repairs, preventive maintenance, security checks, opening and closing of our office, and constant troubleshooting and repairs of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for the building. The successful candidate for this role possesses several trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, heating and cooling, etc., and won't need constant supervision and guidance. We're seeking someone who is extremely capable, hands-on, and very quick to respond.
Responsibilities
- Take charge in troubleshooting and performing repairs of buildings and installed systems, including, but not limited to: plumbing systems, kitchen equipment, roofs, drains, shop, and HVAC.
- Maintain constant upkeep on lighting systems throughout the facility, cleaning fixtures and replacing bulbs and lamps.
- Complete work orders for repairs and/or painting in offices, common areas, and other physical structures of the facility as assigned.
- Perform carpentry, furniture assembly and other tasks as needed.
- Review assigned work orders, including estimating time and materials needed to complete repair. Order necessary materials and supplies to complete all tasks.
- Follow-up with internal clients on completed repairs, and maintain excellent composure during complicated and/or high-stress work orders.
- Assist with installation and modification of building equipment systems, and assist the Facilities Manager with QA on all work being done.
- Maintain constant security vigil over our building and our systems, immediately flagging suspicious internal and external activity.
- Inspect new installation for compliance with building codes and safety regulations.
- Follow all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
- Complete repairs, maintenance, and painting. There will be the occasional weekend where we will need you onsite to perform and/or oversee work.
- Maintain meticulous records/logs of scheduled maintenance procedures.
- Performs other tasks within department; housekeeping, security, refurbishment as needed.
- Wears PPE/safety equipment as required for the job. Reports any safety hazards and/or accidents to supervisor.
- Complies with all department and facilities policies and procedures.
- Perform assigned day-to-day repairs, emergency and preventive maintenance. Complete maintenance and repair records as required.
- Respond quickly to emergency situations and ad hoc requests from executive team.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 3 years' work experience in facilities maintenance for a similar sized organization and building maintenance.
- Adept in using basic hand tools, handheld power tools, ladders, basic plumbing tools, drain cleaning machine, minor electrical, minor carpentry, basic HVAC, painting, and any other related skill.
- Ability to multitask with attention to detail, consideration for value for money, and exceptional customer service. We're looking for individuals that bring utmost professionalism and tact.
- Physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs / ladders and ability to lift / carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
- Ability to walk, bend, kneel, stand or sit for an extended period of time.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to supervisor and other personnel.
- Use personal computer and / or PDA for work order system, email, ESS and training. Basic skills with Microsoft Office suite and Google Workspace.
