Miami University's Communications and Marketing department has been charged with building and maintaining the university's brand on a local, regional, and national stage. This dynamic and award-winning team is comprised of nearly 70 marketing and communications professionals and is looking to hire an Associate Director of Content Strategy.
The Associate Director of Content Strategy should possess the perfect blend of analytical and creative skills. The person in this role develops, executes, and manages content strategies to engage with Miami's key audiences, with a particular focus on copywriting. They use their creative abilities to tell compelling stories that reinforce the Miami brand.
The Associate Director of Content Strategy will collaborate with appropriate staff to write, edit, and prepare for production a variety of university communications primarily directed toward external audiences. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated expertise of the difference between writing for print publications, advertising, and digital platforms, embracing university brand standards and tone of voice.
The Associate Director of Content Strategy will lead UCM's copywriting efforts, supervise student workers, and steer cross-functional projects. These duties will require working closely with designers and enrollment professionals, giving/receiving creative and editorial feedback from/to clients and colleagues, as well as the ability to drive results while keeping projects on track. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and understanding in these areas.

Duties/Physical Demands:

- Write, present, and modify copy for colleagues, clients, and campus partners.
- Collaborate with project managers, other editors, designers, photographers, videographers, web team, digital marketers, and other appropriate staff to produce marketing assets for the university.
- Develop engaging content that is consistent with the Miami brand image and addresses both business goals and audience needs.
- Analyze data to identify trends and anticipate consumer needs.
- Consult with clients - including faculty, staff, and students - to determine project scope, expectations, deadlines, and necessary resources.
- Proofread other editors' materials.
- Research content, conduct interviews, and prepare profiles.
- Assist in maintaining project deadlines and feasibility during the production of materials.
- Delegate tasks and provide feedback to writers and content creators.
- Help manage the editorial calendar.
- Participate in cross-functional projects.
- Develop a solid understanding of key audiences through market research.
- Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Three to five (3-5) years writing and Content Strategy experience in a marketing environment.

Desired Qualifications:

One to three (1-3) years experience writing for higher education.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent, demonstrable writing skills. Candidates should submit at least three writing samples or links to a portfolio of work.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Highly creative, curious, and imaginative.
- Experience in cross-platform content creation.
- Knowledge of and willingness to collaborate with news team, web team, social media, photo/video, and trademarks and licensing.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Customer service skills, including diplomatically, patiently, and successfully handling complaints, problems, questions, conflict, and suggestions.
- Knowledge of AP style and experience working within brand guidelines.
- Self-motivated and well organized.
- Ability and willingness to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Keen attention to detail.
