Job description

Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities:

Long Island University is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as the Associate Director of Admissions Operations. The Associate Director of Admissions Operations is responsible for assessing and evaluating transfer credits from incoming students to determine their eligibility for academic credits based on prior coursework and experience. The Associate Director of Admissions Operations plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate credit transfer processes and supporting students in their academic journey.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Review and evaluate transcripts and documentation from incoming students to determine the transferability of credits.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and guidelines regarding transfer credit evaluation.
  • Communicate effectively with students, success coaches, program coordinators, department chairs, and other key stakeholders to provide accurate information about transfer credit processes and outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in relevant systems including, but not limited to, the student information system (PeopleSoft), T ransfer E valuation S ystem (TES) , ImageNow, and other LIU proprietary systems, and ensure the confidentiality and security of student information.
  • Stay informed about academic programs, curriculum changes , and accreditation requirements to make informed decisions .
  • Address inquiries and resolve issues related to transfer credit decisions, working closely with students and relevant departments including , but not limited to, admissions, academic advising units, information technology, and the registrar.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with AACRO and other industry best practices in credit evaluation and t ransfer policies.

Qualifications:

  • A b achelor’s degree is required . A m aster’s degree in higher education, student affairs , or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in transfer credit evaluation or a related field within higher education.
  • Familiarity with academic databases and systems for record keeping.
  • Strong understanding of academic policies and accreditation standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with sound judgement and decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • High energy and enthusiasm to work with students to propel them toward success.
  • Clear evidence of leadership in and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and a record of working collaboratively with constituencies with diplomacy, empathy, and tact.
  • Sensitivity to and demonstrated an understanding of the needs of a diverse student body.
  • Familiarity with academic databases and systems for record keeping.

Working Conditions:
  • Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, are required to properly execute the position’s role .
  • Occasional travel to/from other LIU campuses for the facilitation of trainings , meetings and other university functions.
