Associate Director, Institutional Research

Institutional Research
The Associate Director of Institutional Research leads the Analytics and Reporting Team (ART) and acts as Director when the Director is unavailable. ART is responsible for analyzing data, creating reports, and pulling data sets for research requests. The team's scope includes student, alumni, and employee data. Reports include both standard analyses that are created on a scheduled basis and ad hoc data requests from the university community.
OIR is located at GSU's downtown Atlanta campus. The position's work schedule is hybrid with days scheduled both in the office and working remotely.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
Manage the workflow of the ART, including evaluating end user requests for data and analyses. Work with clients to clarify requestor needs and deadlines.
• Serve as liaison between OIR and GSU's Office of Student Success and Enrollment Services.
• Serve as lead Institutional Researcher and project coordinator.
• Extract data from university data systems using Oracle SQL Developer, including data for academic research.
• Combine data from multiple sources, including both internal GSU sources and external data, for use in analyses.
• Conduct research and create deliverables, such as standard reports, statistical analyses, and data visualizations for the university community.
• Coordinate and deliver OIR's SQL course periodically throughout the year.
• Provide written and verbal presentations of research findings.
• Create documentation for reproducibility of analytical and report-generating processes.
• Participate in the university-wide data community.
A quality candidate will possess the following:
• Experience leading a team of Institutional Researchers or data analysts, including workflow management, as well as staff hiring, training and evaluation.
• Experience leading analytical report development.
• Knowledge of research techniques and quantitative problem solving.
• Knowledge of reporting principles and practices.
• Knowledge of typical university business processes, particularly those impacting data processing.
• Knowledge of integrated information systems and programming.
• Ability to maintain collegial relationships with campus partners, clients, and administration. This includes professional verbal and written communication and advising clients in the effective use of data for analyses.
• Knowledge of ethical use of data, as well as knowledge of the regulations and procedures regarding protection of student data (FERPA, EU General Data Protection Regulation, IRB).
• Knowledge of and experience with data extraction software, such as Oracle SQL Developer or PL/SQL.
• Knowledge of and experience using standard data management and analysis software tools, such as Excel, Power Query, Power BI, Tableau, SPSS, STATA, R, Python, etc.

Qualifications:
Minimum Hiring Requirements:
Master's degree and one-year supervisory experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Hiring Requirements:
In addition to meeting the minimum hiring standards, preference may be given to those who meet the following criteria:
• Master's degree, preferably in Data Science, Analytics, Information Systems, Business, Public Policy, or Education, and four years of relevant experience.
• Experience with Banner by Ellucian.
• Experience with data visualization and dashboarding tools, such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.
• Knowledge of and experience with client/server computing, relational databases, and scripting/programming languages such as Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, Python, R, etc.
• Experience with code versioning platforms, such as GitHub.
• Experience working with Student Tracker files from the National Student Clearinghouse.
• Experience working with publicly-available data sets, such as the American Community Survey from the U.S. Census Bureau.
