Cornell University's Law School-a leader in legal education-is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Associate DirectorAnnual Giving, Reunion Giving Officerto join the Alumni Affairs & Development division in Ithaca, NY.
The Opportunity
The Associate Director carries a pool of leadership and major donor prospects and leads the Law Reunion Campaign Program. In partnership with the Associate Dean, Annual Giving Director, Director of Development, and Major Gift Officers, the Associate Director devises Reunion-based strategies for alumni engagement and philanthropy in alignment with school priorities, fundraising, and others.
The Associate Director is responsible for the strategic planning, forecasting, execution, direction, and design of Cornell Law School's comprehensive Reunion Campaign Program, which generates between $4 million and $14 million in new gifts and commitments annually to support Cornell Law School. The Associate Director oversees and monitors prospect management and solicitations to achieve Reunion and Law School new gifts and commitments goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, training, and motivation to integrate the Law School Reunion Class Campaign Program consisting of 15 classes and 2000+ alumni into the Law School's AA&D overall activities. Shortened list of key responsibilities
  • Develop and assist in developing strategies and activities designed to strengthen specific relationships and involvement of key alumni, donors, and prospects through the Law School Reunion Program. Coordinate with key volunteers, Major and Principal Gift Officers, the Dean, and other staff on prospect identification, volunteer recruitment, and solicitation strategies.
  • Manage a portfolio of between 40-60 households with interest in Law School programs and priorities, often with a not yet clearly established stage or early stage giving relationships at Cornell. These prospects should have the capacity to give significant gifts ($100K+) and the emphasis will be on soliciting and closing gifts at the major gift level ($250K+).
  • In coordination with the Director of Annual Giving, plan aspects of the Law School's Annual Fund goal setting, planning, and activity implementation, with a primary focus on reunion fundraising. Collaborate on Giving Day planning and lead Reunion Giving Day strategies. Actively partner with central university colleagues to implement these programs.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3-5 years of related career experience in development, alumni affairs/volunteer engagement, communications/marketing, or business development
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of the practices of fundraising and individual giving.
  • Effective organizational skills and strong detail orientation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals across the University and College faculty, key alumni, volunteers, and executive staff.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, and discretion.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Must be able and willing to work occasional weekends and evenings, including Law School and University major events, and to undertake business travel.
