Directs all faculty and units within the Library. Assists the Dean of Libraries in the general administration of the Library.
Job Description:
The Associate Dean provides leadership for the personnel and library operations
encompassing public and technical services at the main campus library and two branch campus libraries in Chicago. The Associate Dean assists the Dean in strategic planning and prioritization efforts to position the Library to best meet the diverse information and research needs of the University Community, including developing plans, policies, and procedures related to programming, personnel, budgets, collections, and services throughout the Libraries.
Minimal Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Masters in Library Science
• 5 years' experience as unit head or higher
• Demonstrated record of excellence in librarianship, research/creative
activities, and service to qualify for tenure and appointment to the rank of
Associate Professor
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated Experience with:
• Fiscal and physical planning and management of a library or of a significant unit
within a library
• Managing up and managing down within a library
• Budgeting, selection, acquisition, and licensing of print and electronic library
resources, both one-time and continuing
• Collaboration with library faculty and staff to develop annual objectives in
response to changing strategic needs
• Tenure and promotion processes for library faculty
• Managing and mediating conflicts within a library
• Employment issues in a collective bargaining environment
• Preparation of annual statistical reports relevant to academic libraries, including
ACRL and IPEDS
• Active participation in local, regional, and national library organizations
