ASSOCIATE DEAN - NURSING
MALCOLM X COLLEGE

The Associate Dean of Nursing provides oversight of Directors and faculty to ensure programmatic, accreditation standards and state agency requirements are met. The Associate Dean ensures that the delivery of existing and new program content is of high quality and in alignment with the pedagogy design of active and effective learning while supporting the student experience.

The Associate Dean of Nursing also ensures facilitation of faculty reviews, assessment of staffing needs and preservation of academic standards. Positions rely on their extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provides leadership and guidance in support of the college's operational and strategic initiatives. 

  • Implements and evaluates academic and student programs and ensure the daily operations of these programs are delivered.

  • Identifies and recommends faculty and staffing needs to the Dean of Nursing.

  • Provides leadership for faculty with integration of the programs systematic plan of evaluation. 

  • Coordinates and directs the evaluation, review and implementation of innovative curriculum additions and revisions, course outlines and syllabi and textbook selection in alignment with state and national standards. 

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive orientation program for faculty, in conjunction with the Office of Human Resources at the College and the District Office. 

  • Develops and fosters relationships with key stakeholders within the Nursing community at the local, state and national levels.

  • Acts as a hearing officer regarding student complaints and recommends appropriate procedures for their resolution.

  • Serves on college leadership team, community committees and participates in college governance.

  • Oversees annual program review processes, including fiscal resource planning and management related to the nursing program.

  • Works with the Registrar's Office to facilitate seamless registration processes for students consistent with District policies and procedures.

  • Works closely with campus departments to streamline advising processes, admissions, coding, and overall support of pre-nursing students.

  • Works with the Office of Research to plan and implement routine research concerning the numbers, status and success of Cluster course offerings; prepares reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and makes appropriate recommendations and/or conclusions.

  • Serves as weekend and/or evening administrator for the College as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing. Completion of a Doctorate degree in a health profession or Nursing discipline from a regionally accredited institution strongly preferred (i.e. Ed.D, PhD, Dr.PH, DNP, etc.)  

  • Active, valid and unencumbered licensure or certification 

  • Minimum of five years teaching and/or administrative work in a college setting or healthcare institution

  • Minimum of two years of documented successful administrative experience as Department Chair, Associate Dean, Assistant Dean and/or Program Director in a health profession academic program Successful track record in higher education accreditation procedures, regulatory compliance, articulation processes and program review strongly preferred 

  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends 

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing clinical practice 

  • Good knowledge of academic administration practices 

  • Good knowledge of available educational modalities including online and simulation instructional delivery 

  • Good knowledge of state and federal laws, regulatory and licensing agencies relating to nursing programs compliance and accreditation 

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills 

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

  • Strong operational management skills 

  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment 

  • Ability to mentor nursing students 

  • Ability to conduct program evaluations and implement corrective actions 

  • General health/nursing school environment 

  • Travel within and outside of District may be required  

  • Standard office equipment including computers and peripheral equipment 

  • Equipment used in the teaching of nursing courses 

  • Ability to operate computers and related equipment and software 

  • Leadership - Demonstrate willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction

  • Dependability - Demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and dependability and fulfill obligations. 

  • Initiative - Demonstrate willingness to take on responsibilities and job challenges
