Job Description

Associate, Codes and Standards

Our Culture: Why work with us?

Our team is NEEP's most valuable resource. We represent a diverse mosaic of backgrounds, ideas, perspectives, and life experiences. The thing that unites us is our common mission, to accelerate building energy efficiency, electrification, and grid-flexibility across Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states as a core strategy to reduce climate pollution and build an affordable, sustainable, and resilient energy future. We've nurtured an environment that values creative thinking and well-informed decision-making, embracing diversity and inclusivity. Our leadership places a strong emphasis on transparency, accessibility, authenticity, and the growth of our employees.

What's in it for you:

NEEP is a remote-first organization, which allows our employees to work in any of NEEP's 13 states/jurisdictions in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region. If you are someone who can dive in, research, and analyze topics relating to building energy efficiency and decarbonization, then please keep reading:

Can you keep up to date with the latest developments in building energy code development across our region and track relevant programs, technologies, policies, and market developments? If you possess a knack for both independent work and team coordination, you might be just who we're looking for. If you also have a deep interest in non-profit work and the passion to champion mission-driven vision and values, we'd love to hear from you.

A day in the life of this role:

In this role, you'll promote energy efficiency by working with building energy codes, building performance standards, and appliance standards.

Research, Analysis, and Report Development

You'll conduct research, data collection, and analysis to support strategy development. You'll work with other team members in the development of written resources. You'll assist in

managing existing NEEP tools, making improvements to them, as well as contributing to the development of new tools and resources.

You'll assist in the preparation and editing of regular blogs and other NEEP web-based content.

You'll prepare quarterly and annual progress reports and provide information as needed for internal and external communications.

Coordination

Externally, you'll coordinate NEEP's project activities with other relevant national and regional efforts, including planning and participation in selected conferences and workshops. Internally, you'll coordinate project activities and materials with other NEEP teams and projects to advance energy efficiency.

What we need from you:

6 months of previous experience with climate action or clean energy.

Demonstrated experience or academic achievement in architecture, engineering, energy policy, building technology, planning, environmental science, or related field

Demonstrated ability to understand technical concepts and speak and write about them clearly and concisely

Attention to detail and accuracy

Strong verbal, written, technical communication, and presentation skills

Interest in energy efficiency and the environment

Ability to take direction, work independently, and coordinate with others

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and internet tools, website development, and content management systems a plus

Residency within the NEEP region (in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic)

At this point, we hope you're feeling excited about the job description. Even if you don't feel that you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply. We're eager to meet people who believe in our mission and can contribute to our team in a variety of ways - not just candidates who check all the boxes. We want people to feel comfortable expressing their true selves and to come, stay, and do their best work here.

NEEP Perks include:

Remote work and flexible schedule

Medical (paid at 75%), dental, and vision (paid at 100%) insurance for employees and their families

Flexible spending plans for healthcare and dependent care

$80/month home office stipend

Accrued paid time off and 12 paid holidays (four of which are floating holidays - take them whenever you'd like)

401(k) plan with generous match

NEEP is committed to an organizational culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are committed to a policy of non-discrimination and equal opportunity for all employees and qualified applicants without regard to race, color, sex, age, national origin, and physical or mental disability. We apply this policy to assure non-discriminatory practices in recruiting, hiring, training, promotion, compensation, benefits, and all other activities. It also supports our capacity to achieve our mission on a regional scale.
