A leading legal firm is actively seeking a talented and experienced Associate Attorney to join their Public Schools and Education Department. With a strong focus on handling special education matters, our client boasts a rich history of excellence and a commitment to providing top-notch legal services.
Position Overview: Our client is looking for an Associate Attorney with a minimum of 5 years of specialized experience in representing school districts. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in handling various facets of special education, including litigation involving the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), assisting in the development of Individual Education Programs (IEPs), and representing districts in mediations and due process hearings.
In addition to special education matters, this role offers a unique opportunity to work on a diverse range of legal issues, such as Section 504, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, School Ethics Act, Open Public Records Act, and Open Public Meetings Act. This position is onsite.
Key Responsibilities:
- Specialize in special education litigation, including IEP development, mediation representation, and due process hearings.
- Cultivate strong relationships with school administrators, court officials, judges, attorneys, and parents.
- Conduct research and interpret intricate legal matters.
- Provide analysis and opinions on highly complex issues impacting clients.
- Prepare legal memoranda on various legal issues.
- Represent clients in legal proceedings, including court appearances, mediations, hearings, and meetings.
- Stay proficient in the latest legal techniques.
Requirements:
- Law degree from an accredited law school with admission to the New Jersey Bar.
- Minimum of five years of legal experience in school and special education law.
- Experience in special education, general labor relations, and negotiations.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both oral and written, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, efficiently, and establish work priorities.
- Familiarity with established systems and processes, collaborating with attorneys, paralegals, and office staff.
Benefits: Base annual salary range $105,000 - $115,000. Comprehensive benefits package, including 100% paid single health insurance, a portion of dependent costs, 401(k) match, and profit sharing.
