Evansen and Associates, P.S. is seeking a talented, energetic, and dedicated Associate Attorney to represent indigent clients in Dependency and Termination of Parental Rights Cases in the Clark County Superior Court. Attorneys at Evansen and Associates assist parents when they have Child Protective Services cases filed against them and are in danger of their children being removed from their care. Attorneys work with clients to help them successfully work through court-ordered services to return their children to their home and/or prevent their removal from the home.Applicants should anticipate their workload to consist of:
- Hearings held on a weekly docket and heard by a Superior Court Commissioner
- Dependency Fact-Finding Trials and Termination of Parental Rights Trials when cases require such
- Filing Motions and Briefs in support of clients
- Communicating with the Assistant Attorney General's Office, Department of Children, Youth, and Families Social Workers, Parents Attorneys, Attorneys for Children, Guardian ad Litems, and other agents of the court
- Attending meetings in support of the clients
- Conduct legal research and analysis on various cases and issues
- Stay up-to-date with changes in laws and regulations relevant to the practice area
- License to practice law in the state of Washington and in good standing with WSBA.
- Commitment to public defense work or experience serving indigent clients preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently when needed.
- Valid driver's license as the position involves some travel.
- Able to work well in a team environment.
- Able to manage a large caseload.
- Be comfortable appearing in court on a frequent basis.
This is a full-time and long-term position. Evansen and Associates is looking for someone who can commit to a minimum of three years of work at the firm. The firm reimburses WSBA dues and has a retirement plan available to qualified employees. Experience is preferred, but not required. Additional opportunities for work, such as Attorney for Child, Felony and Misdemeanor Criminal Cases, and Involuntary Treatment Act defense, may be made available for the right candidate.
