Departmental Overview
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking to fill an Associate Athletic Director of NIL position to develop, implement and oversee a comprehensive NIL program.
The Associate Athletic Director of NIL will coordinate and lead the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics' Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) program that will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive NIL program that ensures all student-athletes have the ability to maximize on their NIL opportunities while adhering to UC Berkeley, state, federal and NCAA policies. This position will develop educational programming for both prospective and current student-athletes, coaches, staff and outside entities.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal units within and outside of the Athletics Department (e.g., Haas School of Business, Berkeley Law) to develop and facilitate NIL resources for student-athletes and staff.
  • Create and deliver educational materials in collaboration with the GOLDEN Program and Compliance staff to student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
  • Meet with current and prospective student-athletes to discuss NIL resources (including recruiting presentations for prospective student-athletes).
  • Manage relationships with external partners such as INFLCR, and provide education and onboarding for all student-athletes with NIL related software systems.
  • Partner with Creative Services staff to create and execute social and digital media strategies to enhance student-athlete NIL opportunities, promote the institutional NIL program, and support recruiting for all sports programs.
  • Stay updated and keep the athletic and University administration updated on the latest NIL trends, including legislative advancements, NCAA and state regulations, and 3rd party vendors.
  • Work with campus units on Trademarks, Licensing, and IP policy related to NIL.
  • Serve as the official liaison with any NIL Collective(s) that support NIL opportunities with Cal student-athletes.
  • In accordance with state law, ensure student-athletes are disclosing their NIL activities through the Department's reporting system.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for NIL professional services providers/agents and other NIL representation.
  • Engage with campus partners in the Berkeley International Office and provide educational resources to international student-athletes.
  • Work with the Cal Athletic Fund to create and implement strategy for engaging donors and alumni related to NIL opportunities.
  • Provide educational materials to fans, donors and members of the Cal Athletic Fund.
Required Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of NIL program activity and best practices.
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with frequent interruptions.
  • Effective listening skills.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in the use of basic computer applications.
  • Effective customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of and/or ability to learn NCAA Division I and Pac-12 policies, rules and regulations.
Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training/experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5-10 years' experience in a Division I Athletics Department.
  • Experience with INFLCR or related NIL software system.
Education/Training:
  • Advanced degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $110,000.00 - $130,000.00.
  • This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
  • This position is exempt and paid monthly.
