Job Summary/Description:Teach and develop online graduate courses related to counseling. Participate and collaborate as a team in the ongoing planning, development, implementation, and assessment of the M.A. in Professional Counseling, M.A. in Mental Health and Wellness Counseling, M.Ed. in School Counseling, and Online LPC Bridge programs. Participate fully in college and department activities, including research and service requirements in alignment with institution, college, and department tenure and evaluation criteria. This will be an 11-month appointment. Candidates at the assistant professor level must have an earned doctorate at the time of hire. Candidates at the associate professor level must have an established record of research, teaching, and service to meet the University’s requirements for tenure and appointment at the respective rank.
Typical Duties/Job Duties:- Responsibilities will include teaching graduate courses online and using technology strategies for distance delivery in the counseling programs, developing relevant coursework, scoring student work, and engaging in scholarly activities.
- A successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students and colleagues.
- Faculty participate in faculty governance, serve on department, college, and university committees, assist with student recruitment, and maintain a record of scholarly activities (presentations, publications, grant activity, and other research).
Teaching and Counseling Expertise:
- Demonstrated proficiency in both teaching and counseling, blending theoretical knowledge with practical application.
- Proven track record of effectively guiding students through various counseling techniques and methodologies.
- Experience in implementing innovative teaching strategies to engage diverse learner populations.
- Ability to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students from culturally diverse and at-risk backgrounds.
- Extensive experience in developing and delivering online courses, leveraging technology to facilitate interactive and engaging learning experiences.
- Proficiency in utilizing learning management systems and online tools to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Adaptability in translating traditional counseling practices into effective online instruction, ensuring the continuity of quality education in virtual settings.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, essential for conveying complex counseling concepts and fostering meaningful dialogue across counseling settings.
- Adept at establishing rapport and building trust with students, colleagues, and clients from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Collaborative mindset, capable of working effectively within interdisciplinary teams and forging partnerships with communities to enhance counseling services and resources.
- In-depth understanding of current pedagogy best practices, informed by evidence-based research and practical experience.
- Ability to design and implement curriculum that integrates theoretical foundations with real-world applications, ensuring relevance and rigor in counseling education.
- Skillful articulation of learning objectives, assessment methods, and instructional materials to promote student achievement and professional development.
- Proficiency in utilizing a wide range of technological tools and platforms to enhance counseling education and practice.
- Ability to leverage technology for data-driven decision-making, program evaluation, and continuous improvement in counseling instruction and service delivery.
- Commitment to staying abreast of emerging technologies and incorporating them into teaching and counseling practices to meet the evolving needs of students and clients.
- Comprehensive knowledge of state regulations and requirements for counseling licensure and/or certification in Texas, ensuring compliance with licensure standards and accreditation criteria.
- Experience navigating regulatory frameworks and advocating for policies that support the advancement of counseling education and practice at the state level.
- Active participation in scholarly activities, including presentations, publications, grant activity, and research projects, demonstrating a commitment to advancing the field of counseling through scholarly inquiry.
- Strong research skills, including the ability to design and conduct empirical studies, analyze data, and disseminate findings to contribute to the evidence base of counseling practice and education.
- Capacity to mentor and support students in their own research endeavors, fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity and academic excellence within the counseling program.
- Successful candidates will have an earned doctoral degree in Counselor Educator or a similar field;
- Minimum of 2-5 years of practical counseling experience;
- Knowledge of state requirements for licensed professional counselor, school counselor, or related fields.
● Earned doctorate in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program;● Experience with organizing and monitoring field experience;● Licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) with Supervisor designation in the state of Texas;● Prior higher education teaching experience;● Experience utilizing Blackboard LMS for online teaching.
