Salary range: The salary range for this position is $154,800 – $202,600. "Off-scale salaries" and other components of pay , i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION AVAILABLE: Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Dermatology

SALARY: The current base pay range is $154,800 – $202,600. Other components of pay may be offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: Veterinarian (DVM or equivalent) with advanced training in dermatology is required. Board certification or credentials accepted by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD) or the European College of Veterinary Dermatology (ECVD) is required. Clinical experience and competence in dermatology is required. Demonstrated aptitude/experience in teaching is required. Documented clinical research record with evidence of creative scholarship in dermatology or potential thereof is required. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere. A valid license to practice veterinary medicine in California is required before employment (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857). Individuals not eligible for a full California license can obtain a University License (California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching: Responsibilities include: 1) participation in lectures and laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum; 2) clinical teaching in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH); and 3) participation in the graduate clinical (resident) training program of the VMTH.

Clinical: The position includes a 70% clinical commitment to the Dermatology Service in the VMTH. The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students and residents; providing health care and service to patients; and advising and consulting with referring veterinarians and clients.

Professional Competence: Will advance the discipline of dermatology within the VMTH, as well as locally and nationally, through participation and leadership in providing high quality patient care in the hospital environment. Expected to establish a reputation for clinical excellence locally, regionally, and nationally, depending upon level of appointment. Must demonstrate clinical competence and be recognized for accomplishment in a focused area of Clinical practice.

Creative Scholarship: Creative/scholarly activities are required, but in view of the increased responsibilities for clinical service and teaching, the type of scholarly activity may focus primarily on integrating/improving clinical care, conducting clinical research studies, and/or improving veterinary medical education. Creative scholarship is expected to advance the clinical discipline through creation and dissemination of new knowledge with documentation in peer-reviewed publications.

Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate means is required. Active participation and engagement in developing/maintaining continuing education activities of the VMTH as it relates to dermatology are required.
